It is common knowledge in the industry that Schaefer is attempting to wrest control of Golden Boy from De La Hoya who is, on information and belief, the majority shareholder.?
Those are the words imprinted on a Civil Action filed exactly at 4:19 PM on April 29 in the U.S. District Court, stamped as action 14 CV 3038 and imprinted ?Judge Caproni?. It was filed on behalf of the law firm Dines and English representing New Jersey Sports Productions Inc. otherwise known as ?Main Events?.
Have you met Mr. Patrick C. English, ?Pat?. He of Dines and English law firm, reminds me of an old gun fighter. I say that as a compliment as the litigation lawyer goes! If you placed him on a dusty old Midwest street one hundred years back, snakeskin boots, lucky skull ring, and his six-shooter, well then you?d have your image. He is a big man whose face and eyes tell you immediately that he has stories and stories untold. But his allegations, by way of complaint 14 CV 3038, a story for another time and another matter, were not finished at paragraph 14 as it relates to Mr. Oscar and Mr. Richard and all that he said and he said business.
? 31) Haymon has entered into an alliance with Richard Schaefer, the CEO of Golden Boy. Upon information and belief one object of this alliance is to wrest control of Golden Boy from Oscar De La Hoya for their own financial gain.?
A whole ?can of worms? was opened up at 4:19 PM on April 29th as that Dines and English Complaint was filed at the aptly named Federal Diversity U.S. Court. The complaint was filed in that Court as the parties are completely ?diverse? in citizenship but, in another view, what an aptly named Court for the boxing world. What could be more diverse! I always enjoyed that Carl ?The Cobra? Froch comment on the business of boxing: ?It is the last vestige of the Wild West!?

Mr. Robert Arum may have been accused of many things over the years by our fan friendly not so friendly fans but lack of aggression and not following ones passion certainly would not be one of his labels. He is an aggressive son of a? watchmaker? And don?t be fooled by Oscar?s comments. Oscar?s lost that loving feeling! Do you really think Oscar uses words, as attributed to him, like ?peachy? without some litigious stage direction! One must be careful as to how they deal with their CEO and things are a little more complicated in the business world than in the punch you in the snout world. And when the two paths meet well, boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to a ?Dines and English? type of boxing business. Pat English has been in the lawyerly boxing world for many years. Those allegations filed across that U.S. District Court, 4:19 PM April 29th resonate.
A Change Is Going To Come
A change is going to come and one can only envision that it will be for the better. Time and time again Richard Schaefer has mentioned publicly that he wants to make the best fights and intends to make the best fights. How does one do that without Mr. Robert Arum? I suspect if you had a bucket list wish to open up that Top Rank vault, the one where all of their videos are kept, that when that door opened a mere nanosecond of breath would allow you to realize that Mr. Robert Arum probably could forget more about boxing than you and I, and certain other unnamed individuals, would learn in a lifetime. Does Mr. Robert Arum forget anything when it comes to boxing?
Can you imagine WBA mandated Champion Keith Thurman (I think he is the mandatory for Mayweather, isn?t he? He?s been the Champion for almost a year but it is entirely unlikely, if one is reading media and press release vibes properly, that he will get a crack at the Mayweather proverbial nut) fighting Timothy Bradley! What about Manny stepping down to a more natural weight of one hundred and forty? Anybody for Danny Garcia or Lucas Matthysse? Manny vs. Canelo!!!

Oscar is not all right. For anyone that has lived closely with someone that has addiction issues then one realizes that every day is a challenge and every day is a journey. Next weekend Oscar De La Hoya will stand up in front of three thousand of boxing?s whose who at the International Boxing Hall of Fame?s Saturday evening awards banquet. He will take his place amongst legends as a first ballot Inductee. He was a tremendous fighter: speed, power, fluid technical ability from the left side or the right side, huge heart and dedication. To his current particular circumstances, if he can parlay those attributes of fighter focus and dedication into unifying a substantial piece of the promoting boxing world then, in turn, the fans are the winners.
