Future-defining night

PASIG CITY?There is a point in every fighter’s career when he is in a fight that will determine whether he is a contender or a pretender. For Genesis Servania, that fight is tonight.

?This fight will dictate his future. We will see in this fight if he is ready for a world title. He has been given a lot of exposure. If he shows a good performance this will answer a lot of questions,? ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer said after yesterday’s weigh-in at Robinsons Galleria. ?He should dominate if he is ready for a world title.?

The 22-year-old Servania will try to defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Inter-Continental super bantamweight crown against two-time world champion Alexander Munoz at the posh Solaire Resort and Casino in Para?aque City.

?I feel very confident. I will do everything that we practiced. Training in he US was a huge help. I got to spar with high quality sparring partners. I have trained so hard for this fight,? said a determined Servania, who trained for a month in the US and Mexico.

After pondering on retirement, Munoz looks to continue his career and possibly another run at a world title.

?I prepared for three months. This will be a good fight. My advantage is my experience,? said the 35-year-old Venezuelan.

Servania is 23-0 with nine knockouts, while Munoz is 36-5 with 28 knockouts.

Unbeaten 20-year-old prospect Albert Pagara (18-0, 12 KOs) faces former WBO Asia-Pacific super flyweight champion Isack Junior (22-4-2, 8 KOs) in a 10-round bout.

?I?m happy and excited that I will be seen on TV. I don?t feel any pressure at all,? said Pagara.

Pagara said that he wants to show an impressive performance because he has been promised with a bigger fight, probably in the US.

?It will be better if the fight ends early.?

Some of the most promising young fighters are seeing action in Pinoy Pride 24 – ?The Future is Now.?

Arthur Villanueva (24-0, 14 KOs) is trading leathers with last minute replacement Mexican Fernando Aguilar (9-6, 1 KO) in one of the featured bouts.

Villanueva was supposed to be the co-main event but after his original opponent Juan Hernandez pulled out due to an injury from a motorcycle accident, the Pagara vs. Junior bout was elevated as the main supporting bout.

In the undercard, Mark Magsayo (4-0, 3 KOs) locks horns with experienced Roy-Roy Sumugat (9-9-1, 3 KOs); Melvin Gumban (15-0, 7 KOs) slugs it out with journeyman Dino Lelis (10-11-2, 5 KOs); Vic Saludar (2-1, 2 KOs) faces off with Philip Luis Cuerdo (3-0, 1 KOs); and unbeaten Cuban Reymi Castellano Aleye (3-0, 1 KO) takes on Diover Mangaya-ay (1-3-1).
