Dan Rafael of ESPN.com reports that if Morales misses the contract weight of 130 pounds in his upcoming bout with Manny Pacquiao, the penalty will cost Morales a lot of money.
ESPN reports if Morales weighs in from 130.1 to 131 pounds, Morales will have to pay Pacquiao $500,000 of his purse and if Morales weighs in between 131.1 and 132 pounds, then the penalty will be over $1 million.
Shelly Finkel the promoter for Pacquiao told ESPN.com that if Morales passes 132 pounds, Pacquiao has the right to take the $1 million and not go ahead with the bout or Pacquaio can also have the choice to take the money and go through with the bout.
Morales outpointed Pacquiao in an all action battle in March 2005, but was stopped in the 10th round of their rematch in January.
Finkel is quoted by ESPN saying: “We didn’t want a Castillo situation. Manny is not a big 130-pounder and he doesn’t want to fight above that. So if you make a deal to fight at 130, you should be penalized if you don’t make it.”
