C?rdoba, Argentina – WBO flyweight champ Omar Narvaez successfully defended his title for the eighth consecutive time against the organization’s top ranked contender, Rexon Flores from the Philippines, by unanimous decision at Orfeo SuperDomo stadium before a sold-out crowd of 9.000 supporters.
Fighting in his adopted hometown of C?rdoba, Narvaez proved to be superior than his willing but limited challenger in every department. The champ was faster and far more accurate than his forward-charging foe, who never took a step back and forced the usually commanding Narvaez to be the aggressor in retreat. Flores’ played the bull, and his performance suited Narvaez’s superb matador skills very well.
To his credit, the challenger was relentless and kept punching until the last round, trying to find an opening in Narvaez’s solid defense and excellent slipping technique. Flores was penalized in rounds 4 and 7 for repeated low blows and headbutts, and from then on Narvaez simply cruised on to an easy victory to up his mark to 22-0-2 (12 KOs) with cards of 119-109 twice and an excessive 120-108. MaxBoxing saw it 118-109. Flores slips down to a reputed (but not confirmed) 12-3-1 with 6 KOs.
