CORDILLERA-based boxers test their mettle against visiting pugs in the ALA-Cobra Tunay na Lakas Boxing Tour which will invade the Summer Capital this February 23 at the Justice George Malcolm Square, People’s Park.
ALA Promotions, the Philippine?s Premier World-Class Boxing Promotions, makes its ring tour up north featuring a six-fight card headlined by Baguio City?s Randy Megrino against Christian Abila from Valenzuela who holds a record of 10 wins, 12 loss, and three draws starting at 6 p.m.
Megrino’s five straight victories will be put to test Sunday afternoon and will try to improve his 20 wins, 20 loss record including three draws against the upstart Villanueva.
The Misamis Occidental native Megrino, who now trains at the Highland Boxing gym in La Trinidad, currently holds the WBC International flyweight title after scoring a sensational third round TKO against Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in Thailand of November 2012.
ALA Promotions vice-president Dennis Canete said the promotions has been studying of bringing the promotions since September last year where the tournament is basically being held in the Visayas and Mindanao area.
?Sa laki ng Luzon, alam namin maraming potential fighters dito who can become champion someday. That?s why naisipan namin to extend the ALA-Cobra Tunay na Lakas Boxing Tour to give fighters from Luzon the avenue to showcase their talent and skills,? Canete said.
The ALA-Cobra Tunay na Lakas Boxing Tour Luzon started last September in Mandaluyong, followed by Laguna last October, Makati on November, Rizal Province in December, and Cavite City in January 2014.
Organizers said they will hold the boxing matches free to the public. Also in the card is undefeated WBC Asian Boxing Council super bantamweight champion Rex Wa-o who holds a perfect record of seven wins, six of which by way of knock-out with four wins, five loss and two draws who squares off against Gerry Paterno.
Baguio’s undefeated welterwieght Stephen Gelawa with five wins will box off against Dennis Padua (9-8-2) while in the undercard of the event are Jeven Villaferti opposite Jonjon Faminano from Malabon, Junar Adante versus Junel Borbon, and Universal Boxing Stable?s Wilbert Madriaga against Ernie Mino from La Union.
