Light heavyweight Thomas ?Top Dawg? Williams Jr. takes on Cornelius ?Da Beast? White for a scheduled 10 rounds at Little Creek Casino Resort in Shelton, Washington, on January 24. At stake, the vacant WBO NABO light heavyweight championship.
A southpaw from Fort Washington, Maryland, 26-year-old Williams is an undefeated four-year pro (15-0, 10 KOs) who fought four times last year, stopping Jason Smith in January and Kevin Engel in March, both by third-round TKO, and beating Otis Griffin in May and Yusaf Mack in November, both by unanimous decision.
Fighting out of Houston, Texas, 32-year-old White is a seven-year pro (21-2, 16 KOs) who fought twice last year, beating Otis Griffin by unanimous decision in March and losing to Sergey Kovalev by third-round TKO in June. White?s other loss came by way of Donovan George, who won by first-round TKO in 2011.
Williams is tough, skilled, and shows promise. But sooner rather than later he?s going to have to do more than beat good but faded fighters like Mack and, yeah, White.
Williams by unanimous decision.
