After losses, Canoy, Redondo look to bounce back in Borbon

PROMISING prospects Jason Canoy and Jason Redondo are looking to bounce back from losses in double Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) title fights in an IPI promoted boxing show on Jan. 10 in Borbon, Cebu.

Canoy, one of the promising prospects from the Omega Boxing Gym, takes on Aroel Romasasa for the vacant PBF flyweight belt, while Redondo faces off with Bonnie Makiling for the vacant PBF featherweight crown.

The 23-year-old Canoy is coming off a technical decision loss to Oleksandr Hryshchuk in one of his biggest fights to date at the Donbass Arena in Donetsk, Ukraine last Aug. 24 in a scheduled 12-rounder for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Inter-Continental flyweight strap. Canoy suffered a huge gash over his left eye from an accidental clash of heads in the seventh round, which forced the fight to be stopped.

It was decided on the scorecards, in which Canoy was behind all three.

Redondo, on the other hand, bowed down to Jimmy Paypa by unanimous decision in his last fight in Sept. 25 in Balamban.

Canoy is 16-4-2 with 11 knockouts, while Romasasa is 11-5 with five kncokouts. The 22-year-old Romasasa is on a funk and has lost his last five fights.

In the meantime, the 19-year-old Redondo is 7-2-1 with six knockouts, while Makiling is 4-4 with three knockouts. Makiling is on a three-fight losing streak.
