Problem Solver: Marcos Maidana humbles Adrien Broner with a twelve round beating!

Marcos Maidana W UD12 Adrien Broner

It was high drama in Texas as Marcos Maidana lifted the WBA welterweight world title from Adrien Broner after beating on him for twelve rounds (dropping him twice in the process) as seen moments ago at the Alamodome in San Antonio live on HBO. Maidana started out with a vengeance and stalked Broner with a storm of leather. Broner tried to weather the early fire but at the beginning of the second he was dropped for the first time in his career with a huge left. He was hurt but managed to survive the round. It was clear Maidana?s power would be a handful for Broner. Maidana was busier through the middle rounds while Broner was attempting to be more economical with his attack. In Round 8 Broner was down again from another Maidana left hook. The defending champion looked to hold on and Maidana threw a headbutt out of frustration that caused him to lose a point. While Broner hung in there it was all Maidana who was just too powerful and unrelenting. Broner appeared staggered again in the eleventh but showed some good heart and resolve to make a hard push in Round 12. The final bell ended a night of high drama and when the scores were read they were all overwhelmingly in favour of Marcos Maidana by scores of 117-109, 116-109 and 115-110. The win captured the Argentinian the WBA welterweight title and moved him to 35-3 (31 KOs) while Broner slips to 27-1 (22 KOs) suffering his first pro defeat.
