Tax lien on Pacquiao’s US properties lifted

MANILA, Philippines ? The tax lien issued on Manny Pacquiao?s financial assets in the United States has already been lifted, according to the boxer?s lawyer.

Atty. Tranquil Salvador, one of the guests in Pacquiao?s victory party in Ortigas last Saturday, said his client can now freely do whatever he wants with regards to his properties in the US.

“?Yung lien [kay Pacquiao] sa America lifted na. So wala na siyang property na affected dito. Malaya na n?yang magagamit at mabebenta ?yung mga properties na ?yon,? said Salvador.

The US has issued a notice of federal tax lien against the boxer after the latter allegedly failed to settle income taxes from 2006 until 2010 amounting to $18 million.

Pacquiao’s lawyers and accountants in the US immediately acted on the tax lien to resolve the issue.

?We have a great team of lawyers, we have a great team of accountants in America and the levy has been lifted, meaning that there?s no more freeze on his bank accounts and properties. We?re making every effort to resolve whatever other taxes he may have in America,? said Pacquiao?s business adviser, Michael Koncz.

?Everything is fine.?

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) also issued a writ of garnishment on some of Pacquiao?s bank accounts and properties in the Philippines after the boxer allegedly failed to properly disclose the tax payments he made in the US.

The issue is now being resolved at the Court of Tax Appeals.
