RANDY ?Kumo?ng Bato? Suico is getting into the final phase of preparation for his WBA lightweight title bout with Juan Diaz next Sunday at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas Nevada. After arriving last July 3 in Los Angeles, California, Suico went into heavy training and sparred with former world champion Carlos ?Famoso? Hernandez at the Maywood Boxing Gym.
Suico also got good workouts with Urbano Antillon, the WBC No.5 lightweight contender and Jose Luis Sotto. Suico?s manager, Joe Koizumi, is upbeat on the chances of the hard-punching Mandaue-City native.
?I believe Randy can win. I say there is 50-50 chance for him to win but with his kind of determination and better conditioning now, we have a good chance of bring the first-ever lightweight title to the Philippines,? Koizumi said.
Diaz, an unbeaten champion in 29 fights, has 14 KO wins to his credit. He is described as a total fighter with good hand speed but lacks power. He will be making his fourth title defense since winning the title over Mongolian Lakva Sim in July 2004. Suico packs a 24-2 win-loss record with 21 KOs wins.
