Hello one and all and welcome to this week’s Pac Sack. Over the weekend, Manny Pacquiao was able to fend off the game challenge of Oscar Larios via unanimous decision. It was a dominant performance by the Pacman that featured two knockdowns and showed the boxing world once again that he has a much improved right hand. The right hook is becoming a big weapon in the Pacquiao arsenal, and it was very effective against the tough Mexican challenger. Now it seems that the Pacman will go on to the rubber match against Erik Morales.
In all honesty, I didn’t think that they would charge 40 bucks for the Pacman-Larios bout, but never underestimate greed. I remember renting Ricky Hatton-Carlos Maussa for 20 smackers, which is reasonable and I’m sure that they made more money by charging so little in comparison to the majority of PPVs that are out there. ESPN’s 30 dollar PPV was great, but I had to rent it on my computer because my cable provider elected not to pick it up. A thirty dollar PPV with 4 good bouts is a good thing, but we’ve been given so many horrible PPVs, especially when you look at the under cards of these events. Had Antonio Tarver- Bernard Hopkins had a good under card, I would not have been so critical, but it basically stood alone, aside from the die hard, Hector Camacho, JR., fans. I can just picture them right now screaming at their computer screen: “It was Macho Time you idiot!”
So, I didn’t end up renting the Pacman PPV. I was able to see it from a buddy that had it, and it was a good fight. Manny never disappoints. Win or lose, you are going to get a show, but when it comes to getting him out there on a world-wide level, it may have been smarter to put it out there at a lower price because I would have purchased it had it been the 20 bucks that I paid for the Hatton show. Jeez?I’m not made of money. Have you noticed lately that jerks are saying: “Hey, why are you complaining about gas prices? You pay 20 dollars a gallon for coffee basically.” My wife had to hold me back from kicking this one guy in the grapes. That’s how I fight people. Be warned!
Comparing coffee and gasoline makes no sense to me. The oil companies have us over a barrel?no pun intended. Our cars can’t run on anything other than gasoline, but we can go out and buy Mountain Dew instead of coffee! I can’t run my car on the dew! I can’t do the dew in that sense! I wish that this wasn’t a family-friendly website because I would use a lot of profanity for sure, even though I don’t really like saying those words (more than 10,000 times a day). So, what are we going to do people? We have to deal with the jerks that run boxing and the jerks that run the oil companies. I need to get rich and that’s when I will fix boxing! I remember there was this guy that tried to fix the heavyweight division by unifying the titles with a bout between Larry Holmes and Gerrie Coetzee. Well, he bought off the promoters and was going to bring the fight to the fans, but he didn’t do enough research and it was going to lose a lot of money due to the timing of the fight and the miscalculations with the closed circuit revenues. So, it wasn’t meant to be, but I don’t completely discount the possibility of a thing like that working. I’m just desperate to see boxing get back to normal, and regain the limelight in the sports world. Recently a buddy of mine said that when the heavyweight division is in turmoil, so too is the rest of boxing. That is our problem people. We need these guys to fight each other and we need one big guy to have all the trinkets and bobbles, signifying that he is the man in the division.
Okay, I’m off track here and I apologize. Let’s do my sack.
MORALES BETTER NOT BRING THE CHUB

Steve Wynn at one time tried to take over boxing when he purchased the heavyweight championship and presented: “The Moment of Truth” with the new champ, James “Buster” Douglas defending his title against Evander Holyfield. Well, Wynn said to himself: “What better way to sell an event then to take a song from The Karate Kid and make it the theme of the night?” Well, the truth of the moment of truth was that Douglas was not coming to win. I rented this PPV back in the day because this was the guy that beat Tyson and now he’s going to face the tenacious Holyfield. When I saw the weigh in, I knew that we had a new champ, and I lost 40 bucks on that event, but Wynn lost a lot more. “I bet on this cow,” he may have said as he looked at his guy coming into the bout with man boobs. I don’t usually feel sorry for promoters, but poor Stevie was a virgin coming into this one and he got screwed. It’s similar to meeting a girl and she says: “I have a boyfriend, but I have a friend that’s really pretty.” Well, you splash on your Brute cologne only to find out that the girl is 300 pounds. You just wasted a dollar or so on the Brute. How much does Brute cost? That stuff is horrible!
There is no insurance, but Morales wants this bout badly enough to make the weight, I believe. Bob Arum won’t be embarrassed again. I remember seeing his face after the Corrales-Castillo fiasco. He just wanted to cry and say: “I’ve been done dry.” I wanted to jump through the screen and give him a hug and tell him everything is going to be all right. Anyway, I don’t think that we will have the same problems?perhaps I’m just an optimist.

Manny shows that he was not prepared fully. There were a lot of chance that he could able to knock out Larios but he didn’t able to do it coz he was also so tired that he could not continue give punches to Larios to knock him out. In his coming fight with Morales he should not do that kind of preparation. He’ll surely end his career if he does that.

I think that Larios made the bout very tough for Pacman and maybe there was a surprise on Pac’s side that “Chololo” was still standing in there and it may have been mentally draining. Whatever the case, the Pacster went in there and did what he is supposed to do as a champion. He won and lives to fight another day. Conditioning is a great part of Manny’s success. He just wears down his opponent and comes on down the stretch. Should he come into the fight out of shape with Morales, he might drop another decision, but I think that he knows enough about EM to take him seriously and prepare accordingly. Should he lose to EM this time around, it will be due to the skill and ambition of the Mexican warrior. I still favor the Pac big time.

What is going on my friend? I appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule to send me a question. I am a busy beaver myself. Anyway, I think that had Pacman taken Larios lightly, he would have lost. Larios was extremely motivated and well trained for this huge opportunity and brought his best game. Pac may have been surprised by the endurance of his challenger, but I truly believe that he was well prepared for this bout, and he did beat Larios by a wide margin, but I don’t think that he would classify it as an easy win?

It’s amazing to me that hours after your tough victory over Oscar Larios that you jumped online and emailed me to get my opinion on the respect that you deserve. Well, Pac, I don’t think that you got the respect of the world after your fight with Larios. You already had it with KO wins over Morales and Barrera. You know the way that it is my friend. My email bag is always overflowing with questions and comments and I appreciate that. I thought that it was a great thing that Oscar Larios wasn’t booed out of the arena as most boxers are when they enter enemy territory. Congrats to both fighters for their performances and to the fans for appreciating them both for their heart and skills.

You have got to be kidding me Geno! PBF will have to shed too much weight to lock horns with Manny at 135lbs.
PBF will be all spent before the fight while Manny needs at least couple of years to grow into the 135lbs. division, if ever.
Odds are better for Manny to tangle with Corrales but even that is stretching reality a bit too much

Money talks my friend. I am only reporting what I hear, and you know what I’m hearing? I heard that Britney Spears posed nude! I also heard that PBF was looking at Manny as a possible future opponent and the money and the challenge that that fight would present to the Pacman might be enough to have them meet each other in the ring at the 135 mark or somewhere around there.

I would make PBF a huge favorite over the Pacman, but I think that style-wise, Pacman’s chances are better against him then to face the gigantic Corrales. PBF has always had issues with southpaws and if he comes down, he could be weaker and pay the price with the tenacious Filipino. People right now are stating that this match up is far-fetched, but rewind a few years when PBF was first challenging De La Hoya. Most scoffed and said that it was too much size difference, and now the same people are saying that PBF will easily win. Time will tell what’s going to happen, but there are so few superstars out there and there is the inclination to match them up in the ring with each other. That is why there is so much talk about this bout.

How’s it going my friend? Right now, there is only talk of these meeting, but talk is cheap. Pacman has a full dance card with Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera, should he defeat Rocky Juarez in the rematch. PBF is the one that can’t seem to make up his mind. He is almost freezing the ball until De La Hoya gives him the thumbs up. I think that PBF is no longer thinking about history. He is looking for the money and nobody is going to bring the green like “The Golden Boy.” So, don’t hold your breath on this match up.

Thanks for the props and I really appreciate you as a reader. I would rate Pacman 8/10 in his recent bout. I don’t think that he was as good as he was in the MAB and EM bouts, but it had to be a lot of pressure fighting in front of his fans and headlining a PPV. He made a few errors that cost him along the way, but he got the job done and I was impressed, as usual.
Do I agree with some fight fans that state that Larios deserves a rematch? The guy almost gets beaten to death and people want him pushed back in there? “We won’t be happy until he’s carried out on a stretcher!!!” I think that Larios is all heart, but I could only imagine what he’d think if his manager knocked on his door and said: “The fans want you in there again and the rematch is now all set!” He’d probably tie down his manager and give him a Bobbit. I think that one beating is enough for “Chololo.”

In boxing, you hear bad things about nearly everyone. There’s always one guy that will say that this guy or that guy are completely useless or are robbing their fighters, but I have never heard a bad word about Freddie Roach, and his success rate with his boxers is second to none. The work that he has done with Mike Tyson, James Toney, and the Pacman proves what kind of trainer that he is. Not only is he a good trainer, but he knows how to get through to the rough personalities like Tyson and Toney. He has earned the respect of the boxing world and has also earned my respect as one of the good guys in the game. More power to you too my friend.

I appreciate your comments, but all caps? Even though all caps annoys me slightly, I will not hold it against you. You didn’t know that, so I will squash it right now and say: Welcome to my mailbag my friend. Now, I’m no scientist, but if I were one, I would be a mad scientist, and I will now try to explain why the Pacman is such a KO threat. It is believed by many that good punchers are born and not made. A trainer can take an average puncher and turn them into a good puncher and turn a good puncher into a great puncher, but outstanding punchers are a combination of genetics, and the distribution of weight, and there is the matter of commitment. Boxers like Pacman and Trinidad always committed 100% to their punches, and that is part of the reason why they get so many people out of there, but they were born with something special.

I don’t think that he carried Larios. I think that he did not put himself at risk because he had the fight under complete control. There was no need to go for the KO because he was so far ahead. If it happened, great. If not, so be it. He was not going to make a mistake and lose it. So, I think that he viewed Larios as always dangerous and treated him as such.

I have access at fights, but I don’t think that my access extends to the point where I can compare the @#$#@$# of Oscar and Manny. Even if it did, why would I want to? Even though I like to watch sweaty dudes duke it out, doesn’t mean that I want that sort of access. I was almost going to cut this comment out because I didn’t know how to answer it, but I made a vow to answer everything that I get and Jose Antonio Rivera gets all the female questions in his “Ask the Champ” mailbag, so I’m not going to eliminate one of my female readers. Manny Pacquiao has not only put Filipino boxers on the map but the entire country as well. I think the Pacquiao-Larios duel was not only a prizefight but an event showcasing the Philippines as a fantastic venue for world-class boxing. Even Michael Buffer, the famous Las Vegas fight announcer, made it out to the Philippines to give his signature “Let’s Get Ready to Rumble” phrase.

I agree with you 100% on every point that you’ve made. Do you want to keep Michael Buffer? Oh, I’m just kidding? I’ve heard so many nice things about Buffer. Why would I want to ship him off? I have to give Buffer his props. He may be tricking himself out to every event that has a check waiting, but he has established himself as the man when it comes to announcing. I would ask him not to do a pro-wrestling event again because I think that he should be exclusive to boxing. You don’t see Kane storm to the ring during the heavyweight championship bout and begin choke-slamming everyone, do you? No, of course not. He’s exclusive to pro-wrestling. I think that the event was a huge success for the Philippines. Too bad that they didn’t put it on HBO or Showtime, or even one of the networks like ABC or NBC and promote the heck out of it, because I have this feeling that the rentals in the states is going to be abysmal. Larios just wasn’t seen as a challenge.
