General Santos City (5 July) — While the entire Filipinos here and abroad are overwhelmed with Manny Pacquiao?s recent victory over Mexican boxer, Oscar Larios, the ?generals? are all set to give Pacquiao his well-deserved hero?s welcome back to his hometown, which is tentatively scheduled tomorrow.
According to Ernesto Quisay, Chief of Staff of the City Mayor?s Office (CMO), he had met with the division chiefs of the CMO and discussed already the 7th preparations of the city for Pacquiao?s arrival.
Quisay said the activities include arrival honors at the airport tarmac followed by a motorcade around the city, which will end at the Oval Covered Court where a program and a press conference will be held.
Meanwhile, Malaca?ang lauded Pacquiao for once again uniting all Filipinos in the community despite their religious, moral and political differences.
In Metro Manila, for the first time, the Philippine National Police noted a 7-hour zero crime rate with almost un-filled police blotters in all its precincts while the entire nation watched the much anticipated home-turf battle between Pacquiao and Mexican Oscar Larios.
This is a manifestation that unity and reconciliation in the country is still possible, and that someday we would see the same passion in the hearts of our leaders and all Filipinos in supporting a common vision of the future, Malacanang said.
Moreover, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo commended Manny Pacquiao for successfully defending his World Boxing Council International Super Featherweight title against challenger Larios, as she announced a forthcoming executive order that will honor Filipino athletes who make the country proud through their accomplishments.
