I am often asked why I hump so much, but as long as there is a Wednesday on the calendar, you have my word that I will hump away. As always, the incoming questions and comments were many and I am beginning to feel loved…unless you are just talking to me because you know that there is a prize that I give away every month. Oh yes, Geno’s Vault of Fabulous Prizes is the talk of the town and the very special gift that one very lucky RSR reader is going to receive at the end of this month is an autographed book: “The Great White Hopes” by Graeme Kent. So, get those questions and comments in and in less than a month, you could be in your wicker chair, reading a great book. Do they still make wicker furniture? My sister used to own some and it was the most uncomfortable thing that I have ever sat on and then you have to worry about pieces of wicker poking you in the butt. Who the hell came up with that idea to make furniture out of wicker?
Did you see that they closed down Atlantic City due to the budget crisis that has put all of the public servants on the shelf? What are they going to do next, go to Disneyland and close that down? “Hey Mickey Mouse, here’s a kick in the grapes!” You see, Walt Disney was very smart. His head is the only thing that remains. No grapes to kick. I think that I own every Disney film ever released. My wife collects them, and she even likes that horrible film: Fantasia. I really don’t care for those older Disney films, but they are better than: “The Sound of Music.” My wife watches that garbage too. It’s amazing what guys will do for their ladies. I even spent 400 smackers to see “The Phantom of the Opera,” and I was not impressed. I heard that they put on nude plays and at least that would keep me awake, but we never go to those. I tried to take my wife to one, but she gave me some kind of nonsense that a real production would not offer private dances. I guess some people are just ignorant.
Okay, movie review. Have you great people seen the film: C.H.U.D? Oh my gosh, is this a fantastic movie! It was released in 1984 and stars John Heard, and Daniel Stern. The basic story is that there are these zombies that live in the sewer system and are killing homeless people and anyone else unfortunate enough to come across them. C.H.U.D stands for: Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller. This film may not be highly regarded by many, but who are you going to listen to, a mindless blob like that Ebert guy, or a guy like me that knows a good movie when he sees one? Go rent C.H.U.D and enjoy! Stay away from the sequel, but definitely give this one a chance. Zombies + NYC = Perfection.

I can’t wait to tell my fellow writer Jose Antonio Rivera that I’m a ladies man too. Yeah, he’s got a million girls or so creating this fan club, but things are looking up for Geno Bambino. Although I do not have the amount of emails that the ladies man is getting, the girls are starting to notice the Bambino. Now, to answer your questions…am I married? That all depends…are you the type of girl that kisses and tells? Never mind. I am married and have been for five long years…long as in terms of long…wait. I have no business using the word “long.” Okay, next question.
Am I really number one? I can tell by their satisfied faces that I’m number one…either that, or they’re happy it’s over. Can I get the job done? When they say: “You did your best,” does it meant that the job was done? Can I really have fun? Oh hell yes. If nothing else, I can have fun. I try to not take anything too seriously. At one time in my life, I was really serious and it really sucked. Now, I don’t worry about things too much. There was a winter morning where my wife’s car didn’t start. So, I told her that I would drive her to work…no worries. Well, my car didn’t start either. It was Murphy’s Law Talia…but I didn’t let it get to me. I was mildly amused. My wife wasn’t, but what the hell was I going to do…get Fred Flintstone’s fat butt to my house and have him push them with his feet? I went back inside my house and had a coffee and didn’t worry about it. I was late for work…whoopee! The hell with work! They’re not going to fire me because I will claim sexual harassment! If they try to get rid of me, I will say that they wanted me in the worst way and when I declined, they told me to hit the bricks. Keep this scheme on the down low, RSR readers. Mum is the word. Grease is the word too. It’s the word that you heard…it’s got groove, it’s got meaning.
Jorge Arce is the man. He is one of the big draws that are coming up and will soon headline an event, but there aren’t that many big names in and around his division. There are good fighters like Martin Castillo and Lorenzo Parra, but do you know who they are? If you do, you know more than most. I think that Arce, because of his style and charisma, will make it regardless of the name opponents. He is excitement. His two fights with Hussein Hussein were incredibly entertaining. I hope that I don’t offend anyone, but why would you give your son the first name to match the last? Geno Geno doesn’t sound right, does it? Anyway, Talia, I’m glad that I have a sense of humor too and I’m glad that you do as well.

I have never laced the gloves in a professional bout, but I have boxed in my backyard and am the self-proclaimed backyard boxing champion (Note: At this time, I am not accepting any challengers). I have always loved the sport and I have respect for everyone that steps into that ring, and risks their health, which is really what they do. Many that scream: “Coward” when the boxer elects to quit and fight another day don’t understand what they are going through… I remember when Andrew Golota stormed away after two rounds against Mike Tyson. He got hammered over and over again and said to himself: “Screw this!” I can’t say that I blame him. Golota realized that he could not win and took a vicious beating for it only being two rounds. I would have been out of there before the opening bell if Tyson were across the ring.
If I had a “fairy boxer.” Hmm. Do I want to leave this alone? No, I will answer it. If a fairy boxer came to my bedroom…I mean house, and granted me the wish to fight at any weight, any fighter and for a world championship to boot, what would I do? Make no mistake, that my chances on my best day of backyard boxing could not make it a round against a professional, but I like to make believe, so I will play along. I would probably look for a shot at De La Hoya at 175, even though he has never been that heavy before. It can be for the vacant RSR Light Heavyweight Championship. If the money was there, I could get down to 175 and De La Hoya brings the money and boxing is a money sport. Maybe I could talk to Oscar before the fight and ask him to take it easy on me. He seems nice. Maybe he’d consider it.
Honestly, there’s not one legitimate professional fighter that I look at and say to myself: “I could take that guy!” I’m very content with observing and reporting. I would probably just ask the boxing fairy to get me a new laptop and some new video equipment for RSRTV. That’s what I would ask for. I would tell him to keep his proposed boxing matches.

It is a bunch of BS when people talked about PBF and idiots calling him fraud and all that. The way I see it: it looks like guys like Hatton and Margarito are the fraud. Hatton has been babied and look what happened when he fought somebody that can box a little. About Margarito, all this crap about his power. To me, he is just big. Look what happened when he fought his size, he came back to earth. PBF has cemented his legacy.
Anyways, Pacquiao is the badass, he annihilated every Mexican top fighters and freaking Barrera and Marquez want no part of him after he boxed their ears off.
Fights that I want to see
Pacquiao vs. Barrios – if Pacquiao can take Barrios punch, Pac will beat the living @#$#@ out of him
Taylor vs. Calzaghe – I don’t think Joe cuff and slap will work against Taylor so Taylor by UD
PBF vs. Margarito – PBF will paint a masterpiece on how to toy with stiffs.
Hatton vs Cotto – Cotto will tag this wrestler, cut him up eventually knocking him out.
Arce vs Darchinyan – Arce will pull out all his tricks in these epic fight full of knockdown and win by late stoppage
Pacman vs Freitas – in a battle of who has the biggest pop, Pac will win by boxing him out
De La Hoya vs PBF – De La Hoya’s superior strength will beat PBF superior skills.
Wright vs Calzaghe – Winky will take Joe to school on quick jabs against hand speed.

How are you doing my friend? I have to agree with you on some points. PBF does get a lot of criticism that is unjust, but to call Ricky Hatton and Antonio Margarito frauds is wrong. Ricky Hatton needs to stay at 140 and he is very effective at that weight. He is a mauler and he will grapple you to death, but he is undefeated and willing to fight anyone. He moved up to Welterweight and he wasn’t nearly as good, and hopefully he will move back down to his best weight. I would love to see him face Miguel Cotto. Now, you said that Margarito came back to earth when he faced somebody his own size? What are you talking about? The guy hasn’t legitimately lost since 1996 and has beaten a huge guy in Kermit Cintron, who was undefeated and highly regarded. I have nothing, but respect for Margarito and I consider him the biggest threat to PBF at this time, and you know what? So does PBF.
I agree that Pacman beats Barrios. Barrios is being groomed as a future opponent, but I have questions about his chin and his ability to maintain the sort of fight that he would need to employ against the Pacman.
Joe Calzaghe defeats Jermain Taylor, in my opinion, but this would be a wonderful bout that could go either way.
I am in the minority that would pick Margarito to pull the upset over PBF. If you watch the two bouts that PBF had with Jose Luis Castillo and then picture Margarito in there that is a bigger puncher and a bigger man with a similar style, you have to give him one heck of a chance to pull the upset.
I am a huge fan of Miguel Cotto. He is a big fighter with a big punch and all the heart in the world, but he wears down as fights go on and I can think of much better traits to have if you are facing the tenacious Hatton. I would pick Hatton, if he doesn’t cut, to win a late TKO over Cotto.
Arce and Pacman definitely win those encounters.
PBF beats De La Hoya and by a landslide…maybe even a stoppage. Many have been misled by Oscar’s KO win over Mayorga. Although impressive, I still don’t think that he is this refreshed fighter that can beat the best in the game.
Calzaghe beats Wright by wide UD. Sam Soliman exploited the biggest weakness of Wright. He does not deal with activity well. He almost waits for the opponent to stop punching and then proceeds with his output. He can be outworked and I think that Calzaghe is just the guy. In my opinion, Calzaghe is one of the best fighters in the game.

What is going on my friend? I’m glad that I can give you a break from work. Work sucks! I am waiting for the day when I can go to my other job and tell my boss to shove it. Now, what was your question? A rabbit punch is any shot that lands behind the head. So, for argument sake, if there was a random person walking down the street and I sneak up behind him and punch him behind the head. It would not be a sucker punch. It would be a sucker rabbit punch.
Antonio Margarito is set to face Cosme Rivera on September 9th. It will be a good test for Margarito. The only person to have stopped Rivera was Zab Judah, but it should also be noted that it was a 3rd round KO. I consider Margarito a much stronger fighter than Zab and Rivera had better be on his game. What Rivera has going for him is timing. Margarito is not happy about being neglected by team Mayweather, JR., and Rivera’s coming in off of two good victories. I pick Margarito to over-power his opponent, but he needs to be focused. This is one of the most important fights in the career of Margarito’s career.
Oscar Larios can go on to face any of the other names in the division. He fought hard and gave a better performance than many thought that he would be unable to do. At this point, the Pacman is in everyone’s top 5 of pound for pound bests and is a deadly puncher. Larios stood up to that for 12 rounds and acquitted himself very well. There are many options for the Mexican warrior right now.
HEAVYWEIGHT QUESTION

I’ve watched an old heavyweight match between a man named jose louis gonzales and the other guy (i forgot the name) who has beaten Mike Tyson on their amateur days as the commentators said. During that time, Jose Louis Gonzalez was 15-0 with 14 KOs. He knocked out his opponent only in just two rounds with the legs and arms of the loser moving like swimming as he hit the canvass.
This Jose Louis Gonzales was said to be from Cuba who, at that time, was living in Miami. I just would like to ask if you know something about this guy now. Is he retired or still playing boxing? BTW, the guy’s hair is just behind his head with its front and side part bald. Thanx Geno, more power to you boxing guru.

How are you doing? You are thinking of Jorge Luis Gonzalez, the Cuban giant that was a terror in the amateur ranks. He defeated Lennox Lewis and Riddick Bowe as an amateur and could have been a big player in the division had he had a real trainer. When he first became a professional, he trained himself and basically won his first 23 bouts, 22 by KO, strictly on raw talent. He lost his first bout to Riddick Bowe, and he never really recovered. He hired a kickboxing trainer and although he could now do the splits like Jean Claude Van Damme, it wasn’t an improvement to his boxing game.
Now, you are thinking of his second round knockout over Kimmuel Odum, a journeyman heavyweight that has fought just about everyone: Razor Ruddock, Axel Schulz, Tommy Morrison, Pierre Coetzer, and Ray Mercer just to name a few. The shot that Gonzalez landed didn’t even look like it landed correctly, but it sent Odum into la la land. He was trembling on the canvas. His arms and legs were flailing in the air and he was done.
Gonzalez hasn’t fought in over four years and I really consider him a waste of talent. I truly believe that he could have been the Heavyweight Champion of the World had he had the proper trainer instead of going from no trainer to a kickboxing trainer. Kickboxers focus on the power in the legs, not the hands and boxers can’t kick people!!! Gonzalez stood 6 feet, 7 inches, and had incredible power, and a lot of charisma. Unfortunately, he didn’t take the sport seriously and lost to many fighters that should have never beaten him.

Yeah dude, your absolutely right. Manny must move on to a lightweight division, this will make him more popular as of now in the peak of his career. I also loved to see him against BARRIOS, if he beats that stupid guy then definitely that’s also a lot of money, then go to a lightweight division where the bigger money is at stake. There is Jesus chavez, Juan Diaz, and also one of the toughest fighters in the lightweight division, ACELINO FREITAS. I’d love to see the beating these guys by Manny Pacquiao if he uses his mind and avoid those silly commercials in our own town, Philippines…

Hey dude! I like the fact that more people are now saying: “dude” and I like to think that I have something to do with it. That’s an awesome word! Do you know what’s amazing? The word: “bling” is now in the dictionary, as in: “Geno walked down the street with diamonds from head to toe. He was wearing a lot of bling,” or: “Geno walked into the jewelry store and demanded some bling bling.”
It wasn’t very nice for you to refer to Barrios as a “stupid guy,” but you are entitled to your opinion. I do agree that the lightweight division is the way to go because that is where the challenge is. Outside of Rocky Juarez, I can’t really see a huge threat to the Pacman at this point in that division. Juan Diaz would be a wonderful fight and so too would a Freitas bout.
Message boards are always a mixed bag and sometimes people will say things just to mess with you, but it’s part of the game. Believe it or not, I have been kicked off of countless message boards. I don’t recommend heckling moderators, but I was working third shift at a job with Internet access and was bored and so I began messing around on message boards and intentionally saying off color things to get the attention of the moderators. Eventually they would ban me and I’d move on to the next one. I went to this paranormal website and began implying that the moderators had fantasies about those gray little aliens. Wouldn’t you know it…that was enough to give me the boot. Do you have time for a story? You do? Fantastic!
Well, I joined this message board where they had: “post your own picture” thread. Well this guy posted his pic with his two buddies. The guy had to be 400 pounds and I copied and pasted that pic into my thread and made a bogus news article: Two Men Collect Reward for Returning Missing Elephant. Oh, it was hilarious and creative, if you don’t mind me saying so. Well, I was kicked off for merely having fun. Can you believe that?
THE FUTURE FOR MANNY PAC
What’s up dude! This is my second time to ask a question to you. I really enjoy all your smart answers.
Anyway, last Sunday (Saturday in US) we have witnessed one of the finest performance of the PACMAN at least as far as I am concern. However there were some Pinoy fans who get mad after PACMAN was not able to KO Chololo.
For me I see it as a good fight and an entertaining fight for the PACMAN to show his ever improving skills. I have not seen PACMAN have this accuracy and combinations especially with his right hook and most notably his ability to counter punch most of Chololo’s assault. He still have to work with his balance though. Do we have the same sentiments?
Anyway my question is do you think PACMAN will be the next MAB, a brawler transformed into a complete technical boxer. Of course when the going gets tough his warrior within will take over the fight. Well after all he has the speed, skills and power = devastating force in the boxing community. Well, how about a PBF-type?.

There’s that word again: dude!!! What is up dude! I’m glad that you enjoy my answers and I am here to entertain. I also thought that the performance of the Pacman was good and smart. The problem was that Larios was seen as an opponent that didn’t have a great chin and didn’t really bring a lot to the table, but he was a former champion and you don’t accomplish that feat by accident. So, the Pacman was still able to dominate and score two knockdowns in route to victory impressed me. I still don’t think that it was his best performance, but it wasn’t his worst either.
Pacman’s balance has been one of the criticisms that has always followed him and he has improved, but sometimes when he goes for the knockout, he can get a little wild, but it is part of his charm.
I think that as Pacman ages, he will have to rely strictly on his power because reflexes are the first thing to go, and when you have a fighter like Pacman that relies mostly on reflexes, he’s going to have issues as he gets older. Fighters like Pacman and Mike Tyson don’t have longevity, but are the most exciting fighters while in their prime. I hope that Pacman will hang up the gloves when his skills diminish because with his heart, he could fall victim to beating after beating should he insist on continuing beyond his best years like Evander Holyfield.

How am I? I am so @#$@#$ good. Welcome to the boxing mailbag my friend and if you think that my words are cool, then I am honored. Right now, I have the Pacman in my #2 spot. Am a fan of Pacman but I was disappointed when he appeared on National TV that he extended the fight until the 12th…. Honestly it was a tough fight for him! I would be glad if he told fans that Larios is very tough fighter but he got skill speed and power! That will make more acceptable…. this time he must keep in very best condition Eric Morales is Eric Morales no matter what is age and last fight shown! Sometimes things show differently …. Like him and MAB few years ago! Most people didn’t know Pacman that’s why MAB take him lightly! PacMan is vulnerable to anything he is still human.

I think that Pac may have been influenced by the people that surround him. They probably told him to say that the fight could have ended at any time that he chose, because his reputation is as a knockout puncher and they want to maintain that. I also agree that Erik Morales is going to be a tough cookie no matter what in this upcoming bout. I wonder where that “tough cookie” phrase came from? It has to refer to cookies that sit on those warming racks for too long and they get hard. Then when you bite into them, they are like rocks and that my friend is a tough cookie. I don’t want to go into the “easy as pie” phrase. I have a theory, but it is far from family friendly.

I’m a regular reader of Pacland site tho I don’t involve myself in it’s forums and this is my first time writing to you. I have observed that (you can call this a prop), you seem to be getting very popular to the filipinos that it may be a toss up between you and Brad Cooney as second to Roach in terms of popularity among non pinoys boxing personalities to the filipino boxing fans.
My second observation is that a lot of people seem to clamour for a PBF-MPP fight although the disparity in weight is just too much. Lest we forget, Flash Elorde did challenge Carlos Ortiz during his prime twice. Although the weight disparity was minimal, {jr. lightweight vs lightweight)Elorde was outclassed twice if I recall correctly. Manny is a gem of a boxer but he should not be pushed to a limit beyond his human capabilities. This may not be proven unless they meet but do he really have to? Since this is the first time writing to me, let me welcome you to RSR and the fact that my mailbag and articles are going over so well in the Philippines is a great thing. I will gladly take #2 behind Freddie Roach for most popular non-Pinoy, but I have been told that I am an honorary Filipino which disqualifies me on the non-Pinoy list. I do truly appreciate the support from the Philippines and I continue to do this mailbag, answering everything because the people mean a great deal to RSR and if people take the time to email me, I should have the consideration to answer.
I have heard a great deal about Pacman being too small to challenge PBF, but I don’t necessarily agree with that. PBF started his career at 130 pounds and should they meet at 135, Pacman has a chance to win. Whenever a boxer makes his way down in weight, they can lose a lot. Look at what happened when RJJ moved down from heavyweight to light heavyweight. It caught up with him. So, if they fight at 135, it’s great. If Pac moves up to 140 or 147, then you would have to heavily favor PBF. The lower the meeting is, the better Manny will do. The meeting is not out of the question, in my opinion, and if it is done correctly, it will be competitive, and I look forward to it.

What is going on my friend! When I visit the Philippines, I am going to have some Red Horse Beer, some Balut and Isaw. Salamat my friend. Now, what are Randy Suico’s chances against the “Baby Bull?” I am a big fan of Diaz and he really brings a big heart and usually beats his opponents with his will and skill over the distance. Suico really has his hands full in this bout, but I will say that he only has 2 losses and both were very close defeats. I expect a great bout, but I can’t go against Diaz. That kid has so much going for him and his heart is his biggest asset.
