Manny Pacquiao is less than 2 week away from returning to the boxing ring. His fight against Brandon Rios will be his first bout since the devastating knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez, and everyone is interested in seeing how he looks when he gets back in there.
In part 2 of my exclusive ?On The Ropes? interview with trainer Roger Mayweather, I get this thoughts on Pacquiao?s upcoming fight and how he expects him to return following the KO defeat. Roger also talks in detail on why he believes Marquez was able to pull off such a stunning result and he gives his views on how a fifth bout between the two would play out. Additionally Roger discusses a potential Mayweather-Pacquiao bout and if he thinks fans are still interested in seeing it. Here is what Roger Mayweather had to say.
Jenna J: Roger, you watch the boxing scene, you know boxing better than most guys out in the sport and I wanna get your views on this aspect, you know how styles meet each other in the ring. Pacquiao is coming back against Brandon Rios, do you think he?s in any risk at all in that fight?
Roger Mayweather: To be honest I don?t even know Brandon Rios. I hear his name all the time, there?s a lot of fighters that I hear about them but I?ve never seen them fight before.
Jenna: Let me tell you what style Brandon Rios has, he?s a pressure guy, comes forward and he can take a hell of a beating in the ring, he can take a lot of punches.
Mayweather: Well I?m saying if he?s the one guy that can take an ass whooping then that?s the one for Pacquiao.
Jenna: Do you think Manny Pacquiao can come back after such a devastating KO, the one he had against Marquez, do you think he can ever be elite again?
Mayweather: Well I mean, if he gets through this fight right here with Brandon Rios, then I believe he can come back, but I?ll tell you one thing, he ain?t gonna fight Floyd, I know that. He ain?t gonna fight Floyd, motherfucker, if he wanted to fight Floyd he could have fought Floyd a long time ago, before he got his ass whooped by Marquez. Why he ain?t fought Floyd then? Why?
Jenna: Well do you think he would be more willing for the fight now, being the fact that his stock went down a little bit with the KO loss?
Mayweather: I don?t think even though his stock went down, I don?t think he?s gonna fight Floyd. I don?t think so, even though everybody is doing all this talking, Pacquiao this and Pacquaio that. Pacquiao wasn?t shit anyway, so I don?t know what they?re talking about.
Marquez whooped his ass, and when Marquez didn?t whoop his ass, they fought three motherfucking close fights anyways! It wasn?t like he was dominant over Marquez, the fights were close. They fought four times and the first were close, the last time he got knocked out. I know why he got knocked out though.
Jenna: Why did he get knocked out?
Mayweather: Cause he had that shit that Pacquiao used to take. That shit that Pacquiao used to take, that?s what Marquez had in him, and that?s why he beat his ass. You know that don?t you?
Jenna: You think because he works with Angel Heredia?
Mayweather: Hey, Marquez took that shit that Pacquiao be taking. He just pumped himself up with a little more juice and knocked his motherfucking ass out. If they fight again, I guarantee you, them motherfuckers gonna be so doped up, it?s gonna be unreal. You believe me?
Jenna: Well Marquez lost his last fight against Timothy Bradley and he had extensive drug testing.
Mayweather: I know that, but that was a pretty decent fight even thought he lost. That?s a guy(Bradley) my nephew should beat, cause he?ll beat his ass easy too.
Jenna: I spoke with your brother Floyd Sr, and he said that he thinks a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight should happen now, and he thinks it could. You don?t agree with him?
Mayweather: It ain?t gonna happen, I don?t think it?s going to happen. I don?t know what the fuck he?s talking about. Pacquiao just got his ass knocked out by Marquez, number one. Who is going to say that Pacquiao can whoop Floyd, what people are going to say that?
They may watch it for the beating his ass would get, but as far as for the fight itself, as far as viewers, I don?t think they will be watching it for the fight, I think they will be watching to see what Floyd does to his ass. I don?t think they will be watching the fight cause they think he has a chance to win. I don?t think they are going to do that.
I think people will watch the fight because people think the fight should of happened a long time ago and the fight never happened, and since the fight never happened, people are going to look at it to see ?Well it took so long for the fight to happen, so lets just see what happens now.? So people will look for it for that, not so much cause what the fuck he does.
Jenna: So you don?t think people will watch thinking he will win, they will see it just because it was talked about?
Mayweather: Anyone watching the fight with him is watching just to see if that motherfucker can even fight! Can he even fight anymore, can he fight? That?s why people are going to see it.
Jenna: Do you still think that is the biggest fight that can be made for your nephew?
Mayweather: Pacquiao fight, I still think it?s going to be big, only cause he got some wins over some dudes, I mean he beat some elite fighters, so I mean he still got a name that shows that he can fight a little bit, at the same time we got to see what he is up against.
Jenna: If that fight were to happen, do you think Pacquiao would agree to drug testing thing time?
Mayweather: Well I hope so, I hope he thinks about it and has some confidence about it, because that makes the fight more interesting. If he don?t talk about it, people are just going to say he?s going to get his ass whooped, and he?s just fighting for some money.
