Two rising boxers from Mindanao but now training at the La Trinidad-based Highland Boxing Gym will see action in two world title bouts in Mexico and Japan next month.
First to fight on Nov. 2 in Mexico is 21-year old Ernie Sanchez, who recently camped at Highland gym after a long stint at the Manny Pacquiao Gym in General Santos City.
The orthodox featherweight fighter who has 14 wins with five coming by way of knockout and three losses will face Mexican Andres Gutierrez at the Auditorium General Arteaga, Queretaro, Mexico.
Highland Boxing Gym owner and promoter Brico Santig who personally travelled to General Santos City to fetch Sanchez said Sanchez will fight for the World Boxing Council Silver super bantamweight title.
Sanchez? contract with his former manager has expired, prompting him to decide to be with Santig, an awarded boxing promoter.
Sanchez appeared in two separate undercard fights when Filipino boxing legend, now Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao fought at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 9 and Dec. 8, 2012.
He won his fights against Wilton Hilario and Coy Evans.
?This will be his first championship bout and we expect him to win big,? said Santig, who will fly with the boxer in Mexico.
On Nov. 10, the world?s 38th,19-year old Nelson Gulpe who hails from Bislig City, Surigao del Sur but has been training with Highland Gym for the past three years, will see action in Tokyo, Japan.
The undefeated orthodox featherweight fighter who holds a professional record of eight wins is set to fight for the vacant World Boxing Organization Asia Pacific Youth lightweight title.
His opponent was not immediately known as of press time.
