TO make sure of a victory in enemy territory, Jason Canoy is going to do his best to score a knockout when he faces off with unbeaten Ukranian prospect Oleksandr Hryshchuk on Aug. 24 at the Donbass Arena in Donetsk, Ukraine.
?We will be the one that will go inside, that?s what Canoy is training for. We really need a knockout to ensure our win because we are fighting in our opponent?s hometown,? Omega Boxing Gym trainer Christopher ?Ping-Ping? Tepora told Sun.Star Cebu.
Canoy is gunning for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Inter-Continental flyweight belt.
According to Tepora, the key to knocking out the 27-year-old Hryshchuk is to target him down low.
?He gets hurt when he gets hits on the body,? he said.
This is the 23-year-old Canoy?s second crack at a regional crown.
He fought for the vacant World Boxing Council International super flyweight title but lost to Thai superstar Oleydong Sithsamerchai via a seventh-round technical decision.
Canoy has won three of his last five fights. He had a third-round technical knockout win over Arlon Batingal and a ninth-round knockout of Ryan Bongcawi.
He also scored an eighth-round technical knockout against journeyman Along Denoy.
?He?s doing okay with his conditioning. We are just trying to get his weight right now. He is 115 pounds and just three pounds over the limit,? Tepora said.
Canoy and Tepora are scheduled to leave for Ukraine today.
Hryshchuk captured the vacant WBA Inter-Continental belt last April following a second-round technical knockout over Hungarian youngster Gabor Molnar.
Canoy is 16-3-2 with 11 knockouts, while Hryshchuk has won 12 fights and has five knockouts.
