As far as WBC lightweight and WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner is concerned, it won’t be long before his name is mentioned alongside some of the all-time greats in the sport. “A year or two from now, I’ll be the best boxer to ever lace up a pair of boxing gloves. I ain’t got that far to go. I’m already there at 23, 24. I just turned 24. Three-time world champion in three different weight classes. Ain’t nobody ever did it,” he commented when asked by Showtime commentator Steve Farhood where his boxing career would be in the next couple of years.
Broner also made it clear that he’ll be able to cement his own legacy without having to face the current best fighter in the world, undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather. “At the end of the day, I won’t have to do that [fight Mayweather]. It’s not about who you fight, it’s about what you do as your window is open. My big brother, he’s the greatest to ever live right now, but at the end of the day, everybody know, his window is closing. He only got a couple fights left,” Broner added. “I don’t care how much money they offer; I’m not going to fight my big brother. That’s stupid. We gonna keep the money in the family.”
