WBC taps McTavish for Pacquiao fight

THE Mexico-based World Boxing Council has assembled a crack team of officials, who will work the July 2 Manny Pacquiao-Oscar Larios showdown at the Araneta Coliseum.

The referee will be the highly regarded Bruce McTavish, a respected WBC official known for his fair and expert handling of world title and regional bouts in the past.

The judges are Belgium’s Daniel Van de Wiele, a member of the WBC’s rating’s committee and France’s Humbert Furgoni, who is a member of the WBC’s International Secretariat. The third judge will come from the Philippines, according to Games and Amusement Board boxing division chief Nasser Cruz.

Co-supervising the event is Italy’s Mauro Betti, the president of the WBC International, who will be joined by GAB chair Eric Buhain.

The officials are expected to be in the country days before the fight to supervise the weigh-in and rules briefing for the bout.
