REX “WAKEE” Salud and lawyer Jing Gacal “didn’t go through the proper channels” when they negotiated Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming fight against Oscar Larios of Mexico this July 2 at the Araneta Coliseum.
Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s American trainer, pointed this out in defending the decision of Manny’s manager Shelly Finkel to sue Salud and Gacal for $7.5 million for arranging the fight on their own.
But Roach, in an interview with Boxingtalk, appeared confident that the two factions can iron out their differences.
He added that Finkel and the two defendants are slated to meet today, and he doesn’t see any reason why they could not come up with a solution for the eventual dropping of the lawsuit.
“Everyone will be here and we will get this straightened out,” Roach said.
As far as Pacquiao is concerned, Roach said the Filipino fighter is very much focused on next month’s bout and does not want any distraction.
Roach added that his ward has been working against three sparmates at the gym, including two Russians.
Team Pacquiao will leave Los Angeles on June 19 for Manila where Pacquiao’s training will be closed to the public except for a couple of public workouts for the media and fans.
