OMEGA Boxing Gym mainstay Jason Canoy gets another break as he guns for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Inter Continental flyweight crown against Oleksandr Hryshchuk on Aug. 24 in Donetsk, Ukraine.
?His opponent has an amateur style and likes to move around and run. He is in good condition and is ready to fight,? Omega Boxing Gym coach Christopher ?Ping-Ping? Tepora told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
Because of Hryshchuk?s style, Tepora believes that Canoy should be aggressive and not let the judges determine the outcome.
?We need to score a knockout,? he said.
Canoy, 16-3 with 11 knockouts, is off a first-round technical knockout win over unheralded Arlon Batingal in January.
The last time Canoy fought outside of the country was when he lost to former world champion Oleydong Sithsamerchai in 2011 for the World Boxing Council International flyweight belt in seven rounds.
The 23-year-old Canoy has already trained for three months for one of the biggest fights of his career. He has been sparring with International Boxing Federation light flyweight titleholder Johnriel Casimero, hard-hitting Vergilio Silvano and unbeaten prospect Jack Tepora.
Canoy and Tepora are leaving for Ukraine on Aug. 20.
