ALA looks to expand globally

THERE is no doubt that the ALA Boxing Gym in Cebu is one of the best places in the Philippines to groom raw talent into world-class boxers. The boxing gym now plans to expand and go global in the next few years together with its sister company ALA Promotions.

While ALA Promotions is promoting its first international boxing event in the Middle East this year and in the US early next year, ALA Boxing Gym is also making its move by establishing outlets all over the country and in the US.

?We would like to put a gym all over the Philippines within the next two years and the US next year and maybe in Japan too as ALA Promotions will be going global in the next 10 years,? ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

The ALA Boxing Gym has groomed a roster of world-class talent with the likes of world champions Gerry Pe?alosa, Malcolm Tu?acao, Rodel Mayol and Donnie Nietes.

?The plan is to put up ALA gyms all over the world as we go to the Middle East, Asia and the US in the next three years. Hopefully, in 2017 to 2018, we will be able to bring Pinoy Pride to Europe and Canada,? said the Cebuano promoter.

Starting this year, ALA Promotions will be sending its fighters to the US to train there and get more exposure by sparring with different fighters from the US and Mexico.

?That?s the plan of putting up a home base ALA Gym in San Diego next year. (Genesis) Servania, Milan (Melindo), Merlito (Sabillo) will be flying to the US in October. They will be training at different gyms in California as our other company ALA Gym Inc. works on the gym to be completed next year in time for our first event in the US in March or April 2014. We will be getting a house for the fighters as they go back and forth from ALA Gym Cebu and ALA Gym San Diego. We believe it will make a whole lot of difference for the fighters? growth, being exposed in the US and Mexico. Fighters as young as (Melvin) Gumban, Albert Pagara and (Jessel) Magsayo will have the chance to be exposed just to ensure that they are prepared mentally when fights abroad happen.?
