Global ambitions

ALA Promotions? thrust of going global is slowly shaping up, and with its renewed partnership with giant broadcasting network ABS-CBN, its goal three years ago may be reached sooner.

?It will definitely change the landscape of Philippine boxing in the next 10 years.

The vision we had for ALA Promotions is now a reality with the partnership we have with the best and the biggest network in the Philippines and with their global reach through TFC (The Filipino Channel) in the US, Europe, Middle East, Canada, Australia and Asia, there is no reason why ALA Promotions wouldn?t be a big player in the boxing world,? ALA Promotions Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu.

ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN signed a 10-year partnership last Friday in Manila.

Although ALA Promotions is still years away from leading boxing promotional outfits Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, the Cebu-based promotional company is slowly catching up with the support of ABS-CBN.

New fighters

?I would like to personally thank ABS-CBN Chairman Gabby Lopez and vice-president for sports Peter Musngi for believing in our vision years ago in making the Philippines a powerhouse in the boxing world. There is no stopping what we believe we can do together. It is for this reason I am now in Dubai together with our vice-president Dennis Ca?ete to finalize our plans to penetrate the international market, firstly in the Middle East this year, then in the US next year. What makes it very exciting is the fact that Filipinos are one of the few nationalities that are all over the world.

It will be very exciting for Filipino fans to get to watch Pinoy Pride live in different countries, not only the fans will benefit from it but also the Fil-American, Fil-Canadian, Fil-European, Fil-Asian fighters as well as ALA Promotions will be signing up fighters from all over the world,? said Aldeguer.

The popular boxing series Pinoy Pride, which already has 20 installments, is a product of the partnership of ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN.

The 21st edition of Pinoy Pride will be on July 13, headlined by the first title defense of World Boxing Organization mini-flyweight titleholder Merlito Sabillo against challenger Jorle Estrada.

The Pinoy Pride series goes up to a different level as ALA Promotions plans to hold an event in the Middle East this year and in California next year.
