CORRALES-CASTILLO IS “WEIGHT GATE #2”
Las Vegas, NV- If a Federal Grand Jury investigating Top Rank wasn’t enough, Bob Arum promotes Jose Luis Castillo. Weighing in at 140 lbs., for a 135 lb. title fight with Diego Corrales, this is the same scenario of last October when Castillo failed to make weight. Sources in the room said Arum, “blew a fuse” over what we are calling, “Weight Gate #2.”
JOSE SIMPLY DIDN’T REALLY WANT TO FIGHT!
Original reports stated that Castillo would only be allowed to lose two pounds in two hours. When he returned 120 minutes later, Jose had dropped only a half-pound, thus officially weighing in at 139 ? lbs. If there would have been a fight, Keith Kiser, the Nevada Commission head, had stated that Castillo would be fined 25% ($225,000) of his $900,000 purse. Diego was slated to make $1.2 million.
REFUSING TO FIGHT, DIEGO SHOULD SUE TEAM JOSE
It appears that Jose Luis Castillo has twice looked to go into a fight with Diego Corrales with an unfair weight advantage. I don’t think it is enough to fine or suspend him. Corrales should take his case to court. Sue Castillo, his promoter, everybody involved. He should be able to shake out a substantial amount of cash.
SMARTEST THING CORRALES & SHAW COULD DO!
The psychological effects of this occurring in October, and Corrales getting KNFO, this all set the stage for ditto, ditto, and ditto! Promoter Gary Shaw, made it official shortly after 5 PM PT.
