CEBU — Former ALA boxer Mark Jason Melligen was arrested at past 9 p.m. Thursday during a buy-bust operation by operatives of the City Intelligence Branch of the Mandaue City Police Office (CIB-MCPO).
The police’s targets were Joembee Mark Sencio and his 16-year-old brother who were living in a house on P. Remedios Street, Banilad, Mandaue City. The brothers were suspected drug pushers.
During the operation, the police chanced upon the boxer Melligen, who was allegedly in a pot session inside the house.
Only drug paraphernalia were recovered from Melligen’s possession.
Sr. Inspector Philip Silva, CIB-MCPO deputy for operations, said Melligen will be brought to a rehabilitation center since no illegal drugs were recovered from him.
Melligen said that he has been living on the streets since he no longer has regular fights after parting ways with ALA Promotions .
He accused ALA Promotions of not giving him his prize money after he lost his last fight in the United States in 2010.
