Lightweight Glen Masicampo led Tagbilaran City’s winners in the SGG Promotions Gethsemane Boxing Challenge at the Gethsemane Parish Church grounds in Casuntingan, Mandaue City Friday evening.
Masicampo beat Jojo Ardano of Cagayan de Oro City by unanimous decision after eight heated rounds in the card sponsored by Weesam Express.
He was joined by Ricky Sismundo, who made an auspicious ring debut by pummeling Nono Paris also of Cagayan de Oro, on his way to pulling a technical knockout win in the first round of the super-flyweight fight.
Not to be outdone, featherweight campaigner Fernando Otik also made a rousing debut by scoring a first-round TKO win against Romen Magbanua of Cagayan de Oro.
Winners
Completing the cast of winners is Jun Intor of Triple X Stable of Cebu City, who also scored a TKO win in the third round over Japeth Orong of Cagayan de Oro in the bantamweight category.
Meanwhile, Leoncio Maratas of Tagbilaran City and Mark Gil Millegen shared the limelight in the Amateur Boxing Challenge prior to the pro events. Maratas scored a Referee Stop Contest-Head Blow, equivalent to a knockout in the professional level, at 52 seconds of the first round over Wing Wing Haya of Bukidnon in their 57-kilogram encounter.
Not to be outdone, Millegen (54kg) retired Aljeard Tu?acao of G&E boxing Club at 1:20 of the second round.
Winners via close 2-1 decisions were Ardie Boyose of Zapatera Elementary School over Jason Tu?acao of G&E BC (26kg), Eddie Boy Abiar of Maguikay, Mandaue City over Marlou Tobis of Banilad ES (28kg), KJ Pelayo of Talamban, Cebu City over Warren Mata of Maguikay ES (30kg), Jende Boy Mahusay over Alberto Maluya of Cabancalan National High School (40kg) and Junrey Semblante of G&E BC over Wilbeth Loberanis of Cabancalan NHS (42kg).
Pulling 3-0 decision victories were Gerald Suico of Maguikay Mandaue City over Erwin San Roque of Banilad ES (32kg), Robert Marayan of Consolacion, Cebu over Noel Calderon of Sogod, Cebu (54kg), Marjo Borres of UV over Mark John Yap of Cagayan de Oro (51kg) and Joseph Oma?a of Talamban NHS over James Bacon of Tagbilaran City (57kg).
