In a shocking upset, 27-year-old Dondon Sultan from Labason, Philippines sensationally stopped Russian Anton Solopov in round one to take his PABA welterweight belt. This bout was held at “Energetik” sports arena in Surgut, Russia as the main event of the third stage of the International Tszyu Cup, which is promoted by legendary champion Kostya Tszyu. Solopov, 25, 12-0 with 9 KOs prior the fight, who wrested the title from Thai Pankphoom Jangphonak in Australia this January, seemed totally unprepared for the massacre to follow and was brutally sent to the canvas after several exchanges. Unable to beat the count Solopov lost for the first time in his professional career allowing Sultan, 13-6-2, 7 KOs to score the biggest win in his life. Solopov is a former outstanding amateur star with 180 victories in 205 fights including a win over current WBO light welterweight titlist Miguel Cotto. (Photo: www.solopov.com)
