FILIPINO ring icon Manny Pacquiao is now deep in training at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles as he prepares for his much-awaited Mano A Mano against dangerous Mexican Oscar Larios on July 2 at the Araneta Coliseum.
Reports from Los Angeles said that trainer Freddie Roach and his assistants are putting emphasis in improving Pacquiao’s footsteps and arm movements to counter the unorthdox style of Larios, who has vowed to frustrate Pacquiao and the hometown crowd come fight night.
Pacquiao, who vows to train and fight hard, has earlier said that the bout is a gift to his fans.
With Roach closely watching his ward, Pacquiao trains with Gerry Balabagan, a Filipino boxer based in Florida.
Pacquiao’s training starts at 5:30 a.m. After jogging 10-11 kilometers, Pacquiao goes to the house of Joe Ramos, his Fil-Am partner in Glendale, where the Pacman has a home.
This is followed by a short nap until before breakfast during which he subsists on a daily ‘milk-and-bread’ diet.
Early in the afternoon, he walks to the gym at Vine Street, goes to the Wildcard gym, which is about 7 kilometers from Glendale, to start the gymwork.
He also finds time to work the speedball and the punching bag. After finishing his routine, he goes home, takes a nap until before lunchtime of milk-and-brown bread.
Pacquiao relaxes by surfing the net and reading his e-mail after the 7:30 p.m. dinner. He also unwinds while strumming his favorite guitar.
By 8 p.m., all is quiet on the Pacquiao front. Peoples Journal 5/19/2006 20:22 PM
