Larios boasts 28-bout win run

WHO is Oscar Larios, the Mexican fighter aspiring to cut short the winning streak of Manny Pacquiao when they fight for l2 rounds on July 2 at the Araneta Coliseum?

Larios is 29 and was born in Guadalajara • Mexico’s second biggest city . He has a 67-inch reach and a pro record of 56 (36 knockouts), four losses, one draw in 61 bouts.

Guadalajara is close to the pueblo of Tequila, where tequila, the alcohol, is made •distilled from cactus, cut at the root, steamed and mashed to produce the brew which Mexicans, like Larios say, ‘kicks like a mule.’

Larios followed the exploits of his father Teodoro, who as a pro in the 1980s, won the state lightweight title. After scoring a 30-4 win-loss record, Oscar turned pro at age 17 on Jan. 17, 1994, almost a year before Pacquiao started his own career.

After an unbeaten 28-bout win streak to equal his father’s personal best, he also became Mexico’s state super bantam champion, after which he absorbed his first setback to International Boxing Federation super bantamweight king Israel Vasquez, who knocked him down twice.
