8CN spoke with Top Rank Boss Bob Arum and got his thoughts on the breaking boxing news that HBO will no longer be doing business with Golden Boy Promotions.
Arum also comments on the Tim Bradley Vs. Provodnikov fight.
8CN ? Bob big news out of the boxing world. HBO announced that they will no longer be doing business with HBO. Have you heard? What are your thoughts?
BA ? I got a call today. Yes I heard about it. Look you know? HBO has been in the business for many, many years. Who they choose to do business with is a decision that they make. We at Top Rank are happy to be a supplier to HBO and as long as we keep supplying them with fights like we did on Saturday, we’ll have a relationship with them for a long time.
8CN ? Any idea why they split up?
BA ? That’s for HBO to answer. Anyone else answering would be speculating.
8CN ? Talk about the Bradley fight. That was a great fight.
BA ? We really pushed this fight with HBO. Provodnikov was unknown, but we seen him in the gym and we seen some of his fights on ESPN. We knew he would be a good fight for Tim Bradley. How good? That surpassed what we thought. We knew what a rugged tough guy he was though.
8CN ? Bradley surprised me with his chin.
BA ? There were no losers in that fight. Tim won the fight, and he really re-established his credentials with the boxing public. Who doesn’t want to see the next Tim Bradley fight? Provodnikov is a new star. It was a win win for everybody.
8CN ? Provodnikov hits like a mule.
BA ? We got to realize that these Russians are rugged kids. They come from the old Soviet Union and a lot of them are tremendous prospects.
8CN – Vargas had his hands full as well.
BA ? Great fight, and that one could have went either way.
