REIGNING World Boxing Council international super featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao will be declared Boxer of the Year tonight during the gala night and awarding ceremonies of the ongoing first GAB Philippine Boxing Convention at the Hotel Hyatt and Casino Manila.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will bestow the national award to Pacquiao and other former world boxing champions as guest and speaker of the special affair.
The event is under the supervision of Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita and spearheaded by Games and Amusement Board chair Eric R. Buhain.
“This is history in the making for our pro sporting industry in the country, much more in pro boxing,” said Buhain, adding that the event is being held for the first time since the establishment of the GAB as an agency tasked to regulate and supervise the conduct of all professional sports in the country.
“The launching of this Presidential priority program is aimed at creating sound policies and avenues for the common welfare and protection of Filipino fighters and future generations of aspiring pro boxers,” Buhain noted.
A special boxing event will also take place at the Rajah Sulaiman in Malate, Manila tomorrow dubbed as the “Rumble at the Bay” with Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) super featherweight champion Jun Paderna clashing with Kiatkrerin Kularbdang of Thailand in the mainer.
