Four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40KOs), during a televised interview in Mexico, revealed that a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is certainly not part of his future plans. Marquez, 39-years-old, has no interest in avenging his one-sided decision loss to Mayweather, which took place in 2009 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Juan Manuel also expressed his anger over the money he loses to the U.S. Treasury in each of his fights in the United States. Top Rank’s CEO Bob Arum recently stated that both Marquez and Manny Pacquiao were very interested in staging a fifth fight outside of the United States, possibly in Macau, to avoid paying the high U.S. taxes.
Marquez stated that every time he fights in the United States he loses 30% of his purse to the IRS. And then he has to pay 10% to his coach, Nacho Beristain, and there are numerous other expenses. According to Marquez, he is lucky to walk away with 40 to 50% of his purse.
