Dubai to host Pacquiao fight?

Manny Pacquiao has reportedly received a $10million offer to fight in Dubai in April.

Freddie Roach, the Filipino boxer’s trainer, believes the gulf state would be the ideal location for a fight, but insisted that promoter Bob Arum will ultimately decide whether or not the fight can go ahead.

Previously Arum confirmed that the 34-year-old Pacquiao won’t return to the US due to the high tax rate on fight purses.

Furthermore, Pacquiao is currently banned from fighting in Las Vegas following his knockout by Juan Manuel Marquez in December. His collapse in the sixth round of that fight led to the Nevada Boxing Commission suspending his license for three months.

Singapore and Manila have both been voiced as potential cities to host a re-match against Marquez, and Roach believes Dubai ranks alongside them.

“I got a phone call from someone in Dubai on Monday, who offered $10 million for Manny to fight there in April,” Roach confirmed to the press.

“A place like Dubai for a fight could be great. It’s a great location for pay-per-view and TV networks and it would be seen worldwide. There would definitely be a lot of interest for a fight to take place there so it has the potential to be a great event.

“But I told him to call Bob Arum because I don’t make his fights; I just get him ready.”
