8CountNews sat down with boxing trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr and got his thoughts on a wide array of topics. Floyd talks about a possible fight between his son, Floyd Mayweather Jr and Robert ?The Ghost? Guerrero. He also shared his thoughts on the recent knockout loss suffered by Manny Pacquiao.
8CN ? What’s up Floyd?
FMS ? Not much man, I’m over here in Michigan enjoying the Holidays with my family.
8CN ? How are things going for you these days?
FMS ? Things are good. I’m working over at 50 Cent’s new gym. 50 is a cool guy you know? Things are going good with me and him.
8CN ? I think 50 is good for boxing.
FMS ? Let me say this. Me and my son will be getting back together soon. I think and believe that. I think a couple more years with him. We are father and son man. Whatever happened is over, and he gotta start a new chapter and I gotta start a new chapter. Little Floyd is one of the biggest fighters in history. Let me ask you a question? How long did Joe Louis hold his title?
8CN ? I believe it was around 10 or 11 years. I don’t have the exact length in front of me.
FMS ? It was 11 years, and my son has been champion for 17 years. That surpasses Joe Louis. As a matter of fact that passes everybody. When you look at it, I don’t think nobody been champion that long.
8CN ? I have no problem saying Floyd is one of the greatest ever.
FMS ? You don’t win for that long and not be considered a bad ass. There ain’t many people that you know that beat that many people without even getting hurt.
8CN ? Well people can say what they want, but he’s one of the greatest of all time.
FMS ? Yes, you can’t argue with those stats. Joe Louis had the title for 11 years and my son has surpassed that. Right now I think it’s about 17 years that Floyd has had the title.
8CN ? Who do you think is next for Floyd?
FMS ? I think he’ll fight Guerrero next. Berto got beat up because he didn’t know what he was doing. Berto should have fought like he fights, not like how Floyd fights. He needs to fight his game, not Floyd’s.
8CN ? What are your thoughts on Adrian Broner?
FMS ? You can make carbon copies, but you can’t make the original. Broner is no Floyd Mayweather. Not by far, not at all. Do I think Broner is a good fighter? Yes I do.
8CN ? Do you think he can one day become as good or close to Floyd?
FMS ? Yes I do. I think he can come close to Floyd one day.
8CN ? What are your thoughts about Pacquiao getting knocked out.
FMS ? That was exciting. It was great, and my thing is I have said some things in the past. Sometimes people do things and it comes back to bite them. You saw how hard he went down. It is what it is.
8CN ? That was one of those knockouts that’s tough to come back from.
FMS ? Yes, you don’t comeback from knockouts like that and think you’ll still be great again. From what I understand, they are talking about a rematch.
8CN ? If Floyd does fight Guerrero, what kind of fight do you think it will be?
FSM ? I think Floyd wins. Little Floyd is too smart for him. Anyway you want to look at it, Floyd is too smart for him.
8CN ? Floyd’s ability to see things in the ring, his vision, is amazing.
FMS ? That’s Floyd. He has a lot of good things. A lot of good tutelage under him. Some of the things he does is genetics and some of it was learned. I taught him how to fight, and some of the things is genetics.
8CN ? He was in a war Vs. Cotto.
FMS ? Let me say this, I told people that Cotto was going to give Floyd a good fight. I was told that Floyd didn’t feel good that night and actually thought about pulling out of that fight. He fought him anyway, and he proved himself again.
8CN ? Floyd does a lot of good things for people that the media doesn’t talk about much, talk about that.
FMS ? He does a lot for poor people. Yea, he does a lot of good things. A lot of the things that he does I don’t even know about.
8CN ? He recently raised a lot of money for the inner city youth kids. Shane Mosley, Adrian Broner, a bunch of them stepped up nicely and raised money.
FMS ? That’s great man. See I didn’t even know about that.
