Just like Marco Antonio Barrera, Filipino ring superstar Manny Pacquiao is also eager for a rematch.
Pacquiao expressed his willingness to fight Barrera once more, rather than face Erik Morales for the third time.
“I want to fight Barrera more than Morales. Kasi kawawa naman si Morales bugbog na naman yun pag kami uli (Because I pity Morales, he will get beaten up again),” said Pacquiao.
However, the rematch will have to wait until Pacquiao faces Mexican super-bantamweight champion Oscar Larios in July.
“The Oscar Larios fight is on. We have already signed the papers and I believe it’s going to be a tough test for me because he is a good fighter. I really want to fight against a good fighter kaya it’s going to be an exciting fight,” added Pacquiao. Ironed out
Earlier, Golden Boy Promotions vice president Eric Gomez said in his visit to Cebu that the Pacquiao-Larios fight was off for an unknown reason.
However, according to Pacquiao, all the remaining kinks have been ironed out, so the Pacquiao-Larios fight in July will push through.
The fight is likely to be at the Araneta Coliseum, and this will be under the PacMan Promotions, which will be Pacquiao’s official promotion outfit.
“There will be a lot of Filipinos who will watch this fight live and I can assure them that this will be a good one, since Larios is a world champion and he is one of the most promising Mexican boxers,” Pacquiao said.
Barrera is scheduled to put his WBC super-featherweight title on line against Rocky Juarez at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on May 20. And he wants to fight Pacquiao in his next assignment.
If the Pacquiao-Barrera fight pushes through, the Golden Boy Promotions has already offered a Nov. 4 schedule at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
The Pacquiao-Barrera fight has the potential to become another classic duel, following their Nov. 15, 2003 fight,when Pacquiao beat the Mexican legend via 11th- round TKO.
