The ?The Filipino Flash? Nonito Donaire scored a sensational knockout of Mexican warrior Jorge Arce moments ago in Huston, Texas as seen live on HBO. It was some small solace for Filipino boxing fans around the world who are still reeling from Manny Pacquiao?s shocking KO loss to Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez that Donaire was able to score the win to close out the year. Arce came out more cautious than expected as Donaire went to stalking at the opening bell. Mid way through the second round a short right hand dropped the Mexican charge but he was able to get up and continue. Arce became more aggressive in the third which ultimately lead to his demise. Donaire battered him along the ropes until Arce went down. Ever the warrior he got up but was sent down for a second time in brutal fashion with a perfect left hook from Donaire. Arce was stretched flat out on his back and counted out. The end came violently at the 2:59 mark of Round 3. After the bout Arce announced his retirement. Donaire stated he dedicated the win to Filipinos around the world while adding he has the deepest respect for Mexican boxing fans. With the win Donaire cements himself as frontrunner for ?Fight of the Year? honours.
