It’s not far reaching or without reasoning that one should expect Manny Pacquiao to drop in the P4P (pound for pound) rankings with his recent KO loss to Juan Manuel Marquez. Before succumbing to Marquez’s crushing blow, Pacquiao enjoyed a high ranking amongst boxing’s best, usually rating #2 or #1 (in some cases) on many P4P lists. As recent as of last month, Pacquiao ranked #4 on ESPN’s Top 10 best list. Now of course he drops in the ESPN ratings, but to his credit, whereas most boxers would be wiped clean from the top 10 list after a brutal KO loss, Pacquiao still remains listed in the top 10 (rightfully so, I might add). According to a recent P4P update on ESPN’s official rankings, Pacquiao drops from the 4th spot, but remains on the list, securing the 7th spot.
The updated Top 10 as ranked by Espn are as followed. The first three remain unchanged… Remaining in the top spot, #1 is obviously Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. #2 on is Andre Ward with Sergio Martinez at #3.
The 4th spot now goes to Juan Manuel Marquez (previously he was 5th on ESPN’s list). One might assume that Pacquiao would now come in 5th on ESPN’s list, but that spot is now filled by Wladimir Klitschko (previously he was 6th).
In 6th spot and ranked for the first time in his career over fellow countryman, Manny Pacquiao, is Nonito Donaire (Donaire was previosly ranked 7th).
7th, as stated above goes to Pacquiao (down from 4th). 8th spot goes to Timothy Bradley, Vitali Kiltschko takes 9th spot and cracking the top 10 in the final spot is Carl Froch (who takes the spot from the previous owner, Miguel Cotto).
