Even Marquez?s trainer suprised by brutal knockout

JUAN Manuel Marquez?s shocking one-punch knockout over Manny Pacquiao was so swift and brutal that even his own trainer Ignacio ?Nacho? Beristain never saw it coming.

Though Marquez has knocked out 40 opponents in 55 wins, Beristain never imagined that his 39-year-old ward possessed immense power in a single punch.

?I never thought Juan could knock out Pacquiao. Juan is not a (power puncher). He is a very precise fighter, and hits hard but not violently. He gets you with three shots in a row at the tip of the chin and he hurts you, but not like (what happened with the punch that hit Pacquiao). What happened was a phenomenon,? Beristain told Boxing Scene.

Marquez surprised Pacquiao and dropped him on his back in the third round with a vicious right punch. But Pacquiao would recover and send Marquez to the canvas in the fifth.

However, in the sixth, Marquez, who was bleeding from his nose, surprised Pacquiao with a straight to the jaw in the waning seconds of the round that knocked the 33-year-old Filipino boxing icon out cold and face first to the canvass.

?I?m happy because I had a desire to see Pacquiao on the canvas, because the truth is we already won three times. It?s like I?m dreaming right now,? said Beristain.

Pacquiao was last stopped 13 years ago by Medgoen Singsurat as a flyweight. Marquez?s last knockout win was last year when he stopped unheralded Likar Ramos in the first round.
