GL: How has everything gone in preparation and what can we expect to see from you on Saturday night?
Robert Guerrero: This training camp went great and now that I’m fighting my second bout at welterweight, I feel great. Expect to see some fireworks on Saturday night because I’m going to bring it!
GL: What does a win over Berto mean to you? What would you hope it leads to?
RG: A win over Berto, who is a two-time world champion, will open up many doors for my career. All the top pound for pound fighters at welterweight will be right there.
GL: I’ve heard that the winner of this fight is the frontrunner to face Mayweather next. What are your thoughts on that?
RG: Berto is my main focus, but it is exciting to know that a possible Mayweather fight is looming. If Floyd never fights again, then so what, the new era of great fighter are starting to emerge and I can fight those guys. I’m ready to fight the best anytime, anywhere, and that’s why I’m fighting Andre Berto. He was the best possible challenge that would step in the ring with me.
GL: Berto said there’s a different breed of animals at welterweight. Is there anything you’d to say in response to that comment?
RG: Yeah, one just came up from lightweight who just beat the guy he never wanted to fight. His name is Robert Guerrero, and he’ll see what type of animal I am when I step in the ring.
GL: You were already considered amongst the finalists to begin with, why risk a Mayweather fight by facing Berto?
RG: Because I’m here to fight, period. I’m not going to wait around for someone who only fights once a year. A real fighter takes on the best challenges that come his way. And right now, Berto is stepping up to the plate. Its time to take care of business.
GL: Can you give us a prediction other than victory?
RG: A dominating performance is all I can say.
GL: What weaknesses do you see in Berto that you feel you can exploit come fight night?
RG: That’s confidential information that is kept in house. I don’t give up my game plan in interviews.
GL: Is there anything you’d like to say in closing?
