I recently asked Bob Arum if he could shed any light at all on a potential Pacquiao Vs. Mayweather fight. It’s a pretty common question, one that he gets in a lot of his interviews. Arum almost laughed when I asked him about it. He told me that he hasn’t heard a peep out of anyone concerning a Mayweather fight.
Does this fight have much meaning at this point? Both guys have already moved beyond their primes. Neither guy is getting any younger, and both have lost a step or two. The other question is whether or not the fans even care about this fight anymore. Fans of both Manny and Floyd are tired, and have grown weary of the excuses. This is a fight that should have been made a long time ago.

One has to wonder how and why such a great fight between two of the best fighters in over 40 years never materialized. There’s enough blame to pass around on both sides of this story. The can has been kicked down the road from both camps at one point or another. It’s a real tragedy that the sport of boxing and it’s fans got screwed out of seeing such a dynamic and interesting match up.
I’ve talked to several fighters, managers, promoters, and fans about this fight. I have heard many people give predictions on who would win if this fight ever did come to fruition. Both sides make good arguments for why their favorite fighter would win. Unfortunately, as each day passes, and days turn into weeks, and weeks into months, and months into years, the odds of this fight happening get worse and worse.

I have to wonder if the day will come where both of these guys will regret not fighting. The money being squandered by these two is ridiculous. Each man could make up to 100 million dollars, roughly 50 million for the first fight, and in a rematch, another 50 million. The way that Floyd gambles money, and how each man spends money, you never know what could happen financially for both guys.
Fans that I talk to at boxing events or at the gym have lost the excitement for this fight. Most are disgusted, and sick and tired of it all. Time will tell if this fight will ever get made, the trouble is, time is getting short.
