Nothing left to prove for Morales

IT WAS rather distressing seeing the great Erik Morales suffer another beat-down last week at the hands of Danny Garcia.

He acquitted himself quite well during the first fight with Garcia earlier this year, but in the rematch he was knocked out in the fourth round with the same devastating left hook that Garcia used to eviscerate Amir Khan.

If you missed, it you should watch it on YouTube. A wobbly Morales was being pinned along the ropes when he got caught with a monster left hook thrown with such torque behind it that his neck seemed to crank and whiplash awkwardly.

The impact almost knocked him out of the ring as he spun around and he fell with his upper body draped over the bottom rope.

POSITIVE. After retiring in 2007, ?El Terrible? embarked on the comeback trail and was mildly successful.

He won over second-tier fighters but lost to Marcos Maidana.

In the first fight with Garcia, he failed to make weight and lost the opportunity to win the title.

He also failed a mandatory drug test coming into the second fight as he tested positive for clenbuterol, a banned diuretic. Garcia had the option of not pushing through with the rematch but opted to fight on account of the purse.

RETIREMENT. Morales (52-9, 36KOS) is a sure Hall-of-Famer and will go down as one of the greatest Mexican fighters of all time.

With all that he has accomplished, he has nothing left to prove. It seems rather senseless for him to punish his body into making weight and getting beat up inside the ring.

Thankfully, he has hinted at retirement already after one more fight in his hometown of Tijuana, Mexico.

50 Cent vs. Floyd. So how do celebrities settle and iron out their differences nowadays in a mature, responsible manner?

They do so via Twitter, and in case you have been hiding under a rock the past week, you would have missed the heated war of words between erstwhile best buddies hip-hop rapper 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

By way of a background, the two narcissists were supposed to be collaborating in putting up TMT Productions and signing up fighters.

But the two purportedly had a falling- out and began sniping and dissing each other via Twitter with 50 Cent insinuating that Floyd was evading the Pacman and the former countering that the rapper was a ?male boxing groupie.?

But wait, was it all staged by 50 Cent who claims that Floyd was ?like a brother to me??

What?s this, a bad April Fool?s Day joke?

Well, here?s my 50 cents worth (pun intended): the whole thing was for real and they?re just trying to do damage control.

Look for the tenuous relationship to implode some more soon.

To add fuel to the fire, the promoters behind celebrity boxing matches are offering them $5 million each to duke it out in a three-round exhibition match.

Now that would be something. If these self-indulgent multi-millionaires prefer to behave like two four-year-olds in the same room, they might as well duke it out and donate the proceeds to charity to atone for their juvenile rants.

Truth is, some people never grow up. They grow old, but maturity is another thing.

LAST ROUNDS. Are on my Super-Idol teammate Atty. Erwin Rommel ?Heyboy? Heyrosa who recently celebrated his birthday and two dear friends who tied the marital knot, Clifford Gaite and Nini Gonzales. Cheers!
