Aiming for Donaire

JORGE Arce has already started his training camp for a possible crack at World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Council Diamond super bantamweight king Nonito Donaire Jr. even if the bout is not yet final.

Arce is at the famous Romanza Boxing Gym in Mexico City, training under legendary boxing coach Nacho Beristain. The 33-year-old Mexican brawler expects a world title bout with Donaire Jr. on Dec. 15 in Mexico City.

?Some will say that I?m crazy and so much more, but I have shut the mouths of critics several times in the ring (and the fight against) Donaire will be no exception ? as I will prepare even better with to Nacho Beristain,? Arce told Boxing Scene.

Arce won a 10-round unanimous decision over 37-year-old former world champion Mauricio Martinez in September. However, before that, he figured in a no contest against Jesus Rojas.

Arce was thought to have been over the hill but he shocked the world by knocking out Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. last year. Arce, 61-6-2 with 46 knockouts, hasn?t been beaten in over three years. His last loss was against Simphiwe Nongqayi in 2009.

Donaire Jr., on the other hand, is off an impressive ninth-round technical knockout over one of the best in the 122-pound division, Toshiaki Nishioka, last Oct. 13 in Carson, California. Donaire hasn?t lost since a unanimous decision loss to unheralded Rosendo Sanchez in 2001.

He has won his last 28 fights and has beaten Jeffrey Mathebula, Vazquez Jr., Omar Narvaez, Fernando Montiel, Moruti Mthalane and Vic Darchinyan. Donaire Jr. He is 30-1 with 19 knockouts.
