The sport of boxing has really taken some nasty hits lately with steroids and corruption. It’s pretty sad that a sport as great as boxing has to be littered with such things, but it’s the way of things it appears.
Recently boxing trainer Freddie Roach had some rather forceful comments regarding Juan Manuel Marquez and steroids. He told USA Today, “If (his) body is natural, I will kiss his ass.” Roach and Pacquiao have been the victims of such accusations in the past, more recently and most famously by the Mayweather camp.
It should be noted that Manny Pacquiao has never tested positive for any type of performing enhancing drugs, nor has Juan Manuel Marquez. Alex Ariza, Pacquiao’s conditioning coach doesn’t hold the same opinion as Roach concerning Marquez and steroids. Ariza also spoke with USA Today and instead of accusing the Marquez team of steroids, he complimented JMM’s conditioning coach Angel “Memo” Hernandez for getting Marquez in top shape.

It’s unfortunate that the sport has come to the point where accusations of steroids are commonplace. Top elite fighters such as Pacquiao and Marquez make a lot of money, and the fans spend a lot of money to watch their fights. Promoters make a lot of money promoting these fights, so money is what makes the sport go around. When money is involved so too is corruption. Money and corruption are like peanut butter and jelly. It goes hand in hand.

One should be careful accusing folks of steroid usage without knowing the facts. The Mayweather’s know this all too well. It was Pacquiao that launched a lawsuit against the Mayweathers for slander for making similar accusations. Yes there is corruption and cheating in boxing, but one would be wise to have facts before launching accusations.
