Every year here in Jackson, Mississippi we have our state fair. Usually every year around this time the state enjoys it’s first cold front of the season. People enjoy the first cool days after a long and very hot summer.

This past Monday night I decided to take my beautiful and most awesome God Daughter’s to the fair. It was nice and cool out that night, perfect weather. I got to the fair a little bit before my girls did because my oldest was working, and she had to swing by and pick up the little one. So with the extra time, I decided to check out the band that was scheduled for that night. To my pleasant surprise, Don Felder the guitarist from the legendary band “The Eagles” was playing. The very first song that he played was “Hotel California” which is one of my all time favorite songs. So this was a perfect place to be while waiting for the girls.
Once my girls arrived, we headed toward the rides. Trust me, I didn’t ride any, but my little one did. While we were walking though the crowd I heard someone call out my name. I looked, and turned around, and saw about 15 Filipinos with big smiles headed toward me. I didn’t recognize any of them, but they sure recognized me, “Brad Cooney! what’s up man?” is what I heard first. The biggest of the bunch was wearing a red and blue jacket that said, “Philippines” on the upper right side, and on the back He came up to me first and held out his hand and said, “Man, I read your stuff all the time. Pacquiao is the man!”

The group all came up to me and shook my hand. They were the friendliest folks I ever met. I took out my phone and showed them some photos of me and Manny that I have taken over the years. It was a great meeting between strangers, who had something in common, boxing!
We all stood there and shared Pacquiao stories for at least 30 minutes. It’s amazing how Pacquiao has impacted not only the Philippines, but right here in America as well. Pacquiao fans are everywhere, even right here in Mississippi, USA.
