THE grandson of a Filipino boxing legend, Juan Martin Elorde, is trading leather with journeyman Gerry Sismundo in the undercard of ?Pinoy Pride XVII ? Philippines vs. The World? on Oct. 20 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Juan Martin is one of two brothers that have followed in the footsteps of their grandfather, Hall of Fame boxer Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde.
Juan Martin is coming off a layoff for more than a year. His last outing was in March 2011, when he scored a second round knockout over unheralded Thai Chainarong Or Wongsuri.
The 27-year-old Juan Martin was given the biggest break of his career with a fight in the US in 2010. But it didn?t pan out well, as he lost to Angel Rodriguez by unanimous decision.
Sismundo, on the other hand, is looking to end a seven-fight losing slump. He hasn?t won a fight since his unanimous decision win over Greggy Taoon on March 2004.
Juan Martin has an impressive 12-1 record with five knockouts, while Sismundo is 8-13-1 with six knockouts.
