8CN just spoke with the former 4 time heavyweight world champion Evander Holyfield and got an update on his boxing career. Holyfield dropped a bomb shell in telling us that he will hang up the gloves on October 19th, 2012 if he doesn’t get a call from one of the Klitschko’s.
Holyfield will turn 50 years old. He tells 8CN that he’s ran out of time, and there is no use trying to go back through the rankings at this point in his life. Check out what else he had to say in this exclusive 8CN interview.
8CN ? Evander, what’s going on with you?
EH ? Well right now it looks kind dim. No one wants to fight and I’m not willing to go back through the ranks. I don’t think that I have enough time to go back to prove something. I put it out there that I would fight the champions, and would retire anyway, but if I don’t get the call by Friday I will walk away from the game.
8CN ? So you are going to wrap it up on Friday if you don’t get the call?
EH ? Yep.
8CN ? Have you made any last ditch calls to try and get the Klitshcko’s?
EH ? Well I don’t think there is any reason to badger anyone at this point.
8CN ? What will you do going forward once you hang the gloves up?
EH ? I love the game of boxing and I tried to be a good mentor. I want to inspire people to not give up on their goals.
8CN ? Have you thought about helping out Olympic teams and amateur boxing?
EH ? Well I am always trying to do something to help. I think they are going to have to put boxing back on prime time TV so some of the younger kids can see some of the older kids. It will inspire boxers to start out at a younger age.
8CN ? How old will you be on Friday?
EH ? 50
8CN ? Last thing real quick. Who do you think will win Pacqiuao VS. Marquez?
EH ? Pacquiao because he stays in shape, he’s a good fighter, and he makes adjustments. Until someone can prove that they can beat him, it don’t change. Same goes for Floyd.
