“RING TALK RADIO” WORLD EXCLUSIVE!
Millbrae, Ca-On the first hour of “Ring Talk Radio,” the Godfather of HBO, Larry Merchant, said that HBO would not send their crew to the Philippines for the proposed Manny Pacquiao-Oscar Larios showdown in May. Currently, the Philippines is at a State of Emergency after a coup to overthrow the current administration was adverted. Larry pointed out that in the current state of the country, it isn’t smart to host a “significant event” as a Pacquiao fight would be. As an alternative, San Francisco is a “strong contender” to be the replacement city.
FRISCO FANS WILL SELL OUT ANY ARENA!
Back in 2001, a successful Top Rank show, featuring Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, was held in the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium across the street from City Hall. Most of the 9,000 seats were filled up and the Mayor at the time, Willie Brown, declared the day “World Championship Boxing Day”. Since then, HBO has not made the return trip to San Francisco. Fight fans should spread the word on radio station KNBR, asking for this event to take place in the Bay Area.
MANNY WANTS TO FIGHT IN SAN FRANCISCO!
San Francisco was Manny Pacquiao’s first U.S home after arriving from General Santos City, Philippines. After his draw against Agapito Sanchez here, Pacquiao has told “The Pinoy” he wants to fight in San Francisco again because he has “many fans and friends there”. A Pacquiao-Larios fight would easily sell out the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, can anyone say AT&T Ball Park? How about the 100,000 seat Stanford University stadium in nearby Palo Alto?
HBO DATES HARD TO COME BY
The obvious match-up fight fans demand is Pacquiao-Barrera II. However, as Larry Merchant pointed out, “That fight is too big and too soon to stage in the summer”. HBO summer dates have already been filed and Pacquiao and his team has that May 20th date locked up and it would be at their best interest to secure that date against Larios. Marco Antonio Barrera will likely either fight a replacment opponent or postpone his bout with Jesus Chavez to the Fall. Remember, Erik Morales has envoked his rematch clause, which Top Rank intends to stage the rubber fight sometime in September.
