It’s been awhile since I did the city tour of our local sports pubs. I decided to hit the road and ask the fans what their thoughts were concerning the 4th fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.
In my state of Mississippi, there are a lot of die hard boxing fans. This state hasn’t produced any big name fighters but the sport is alive and well here. This is Roy Jones Jr country. Roy lives in Pensacola, Florida which isn’t too far from Mississippi. Roy has come through our state many times in the past both inside of the ring and outside of the ring.
Mississippi also has a plethora of Manny Pacquiao fans. I believe there are more Pacquiao fans here than there are Marquez fans. With that said, the state isn’t void of Marquez fans as well. So what do the fans think about a 4th fight between the two fighters? I spoke with a few fans around town to find out.

I stopped by “Time Out” sports lounge in Jackson, MS. I spoke with Sam Rhoden of Byram, MS. He’s a big Pacquiao fan and made his opinion pretty clear, “I’m not really that excited about a 4th fight between Manny and Marquez. In my opinion Manny won 3 out of the 4 fights. What else is their to prove by doing a 4th one?” Sam went on to say, “The way the judges are scoring fights these days, I think Manny will have to knock this guy out for the win. Manny was robbed badly in his last fight Vs. Bradley.”
Pacquiao was indeed robbed badly Vs. Bradley. I agree with the fan, Pacquiao would be wise to knockout Marquez, and not let it get to the judges.

I stopped on by “Buffalo Wild Wings” next. This is one of Jackson’s most popular sports bars. I got a lot of fan reaction here. One fan, Steve Ott of Jackson chimed in “Roach is a joke. He’s been given talent on a silver plate for years. He’s the most over-rated coach in boxing history. Just about anyone could have his record if they had the same talent walk into their gym. I hope Marquez knocks Pacquiao out clean so Roach can go win-less this year.” Ott added, “Marquez was robbed at least twice by the judges. He beat Pacquiao at least twice, and hopefully he can get the knockout this time.”
My last stop for the day was over at “Pop’s” in Jackson. I ran into Shane Martin of Clinton, MS. Shane is a big Pacquiao fan, and after telling him what Ott had to say, he responded, “Pacquiao is not only a beast in the ring, he’s also one of the hell of a nice guy outside of the ring. People are just jealous of his accomplishments. 8 division world champion? unheard of. Pacman will defeat Marquez and he will do it easily this time.” Martin went on to say, ” Pacquiao is focused on this fight, and has changed his life as well. He’s back to the old Manny, and you haters out there will find out in December!”
So there you have it folks. Some of the fans reactions to this 4th fight were heated. Hopefully there will be fireworks in the ring as well.
