8CountNews sat down with Top Rank head Bob Arum and got a great update. Arum tells 8CN that the trip to The Philippines went excellent and that the fight November 10th is a go. The press tour will start on Tuesday after Labor Day. Arum also tells 8CN that Pacquiao will train the entire camp in Los Angeles. Arum says that a decision on the opponent will be made by the end of the week.
Arum broke down the three possible opponents, Bradley, Cotto, Marquez and explained how the economics would decide it. One thing I can add is that he spent more time explaining how Cotto and Marquez made sense, and very little talk on Bradley. Take that for what it’s worth.
A possible Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao fight in April? Yes indeed. Arum tells 8CN that preliminary talks have started between Top Rank and Floyd’s people. If true, this is big. Stay tuned on that.
The Top Rank boss also talked about Nonito Donaire and why the fight with Jorge Arce fell through and how Nishioka got the nod. Arum tells 8CN that Arce wanted even money and Top Rank just couldn’t meet that demand.
Lastly, Arum ripped the amateur boxing organization AIBA and slammed the amateur boxing program in America. He slams the amateur program for being disorganized, and calls for a complete overhall of the USA amateur program.
On a much brighter note, 8CN asked Arum about our USA Olympic Gold Medal winner Claressa Shields. When 8CN asked Arum about Shields, he replied, ?She looked better than the men did. We would love to have her on one of our cards. We would love to have her.?
