So now we know, Manny Pacquiao the 8 division world champion has selected his Mexican nemesis, Juan Manuel Marquez for a 4th time. I have to be honest, as far as watching this fight? I will do so because of the previous three fights. Marquez has given Manny all he can handle in the first three fights, so this one shouldn’t be much different.
Pacquiao had a choice to make. He couldn’t pick Cotto because Miguel opted to fight Austin Trout. This left Timothy Bradley, or Juan Manuel Marquez. Of course Floyd Mayweather’s name is always in the mix, but nobody really thought that fight would happen. So why did Pacquiao choose Marquez over Tim Bradley? Well according to Pacquiao advisor Michael Koncz, it was because Manny wasn’t happy hearing the boo birds come out in his last performance, and he wanted to stamp closure on the trilogy fight. OK, well that may be true, but that’s not the REAL reason Pacquiao chose Marquez

. The real reason is simple, money. Pacquiao had a choice to fight Tim Bradley for approximately 15 to 18 million dollars, or Juan Manuel Marquez for around 26 million dollars. Pacman got robbed terribly on the cards Vs. Bradley, so why risk another loss to Bradley for 15 to 18 million dollars? If he loses, he can kiss the big payday fight Vs. Mayweather goodbye forever. This same concept applies for Maquez as well, but at least he would get paid up to 10 million dollars more for the risk.
If Pacquiao defeats Marquez he has more leverage going into a fight with Mayweather. Pacquiao knows that a fight Vs. Floyd gets him in the 40 million dollar range, and if you mix in a rematch clause we are now talking a total of 80 million or so. Pacman knew that by picking Bradley in a rematch and only getting around 18 million, it wasn’t worth the risk if he would have gotten robbed on the cards again.

I don’t know why Bradley is so pissed off. He got a HUGE gift decision, and hasn’t earned a rematch in my opinion. He’s a great guy, a veteran of the US Armed Forces, a classy dude, but he didn’t earn any rematch with Pacquiao. At least with Marquez, he’s been to war with Manny and some even say he won a few of those battles.
Marquez Vs. Pacquiao 4 should be another good scrap. It’s one I’m actually looking forward to.
