On Wednesday night, I caught up with 24-year-old, unbeaten Filipino boxer Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (25-0-1, 13 KOs) who is headlining ESPN’s Friday Night Fights from the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend against the dangerous, and upset-minded Ty Barnett (20-2-1, 13 KOs).
Gesta worked up a sweat at the Top Rank Gym in Las Vegas together with his trainers Vince Parra and Anecito Gesta in preparation for this afternoon’s weigh-ins at 4pm.
Check out what Gesta had to say after his final workout in this exclusive dSource interview as part of our behind-the-scenes coverage with Fil-Am TV.
dSource – “How are you feeling right now?”

MG – “I feel good. I feel in shape right now. Just a couple of more pounds, and I’m good.”
dSource – “The weigh-ins is tomorrow, you said a couple more pounds… do you feel strong at this weight?”
MG – “I feel strong. I feel comfortable in this weight. It’s just right now, fighters need to cut weight, I feel really tired right now.”
dSource – “Tell us what goes through a fighter’s mind on the night before the weigh-ins. I’m pretty sure you’re stressed out right now.”
MG – “It’s only one thing. We just can’t wait until the weigh-ins. We’re waiting for the food (starving), after the weigh-ins. I’m so excited. I just want to be there in the ring and fight. I’ve been training for 2 months now. I’m excited especially now that I’m going to be on ESPN. I’m ready.”
dSource – “Ty Barnett has been doing a lot of trash talking man. How do you react to that?”
MG – “Actually, I like opponents like that. I get challenged. I feel like, ‘if you want to talk like that, then prove it in the ring’. It’s going to be war. I’ excited that he’s so confident, that he’s talking trash. I’m a fighter. I’ve been fighting since I was a kid. I just can’t wait for the fight.”
dSource – “I’m sure you’ve seen some tapes on Barnett […] break him down for us.”
MG – ” His strength is his right straight […] We really studied his style. We’re comfortable. I’m ready. If he makes a mistake, he’s going down…”
